Audacious delusion

I love rendering assistance whatever way I can. Sometime ago, I had this friend who struggled financially in school. Whenever we talked, and she complained about how hard life was, I felt bad for her. This girl is very intelligent, she’s fluent in English, and most of all, I knew her as someone who was hardworking. I’ve known her for years, and I believed she was going to be an asset to hive if I brought her in.

I explained the basics of hive to her, and emphasized on the fact that it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. I did so, she told me she was interested, as long as she would earn from it. I was even surprised when she told me later the same day, that she had created her hive account. Seeing that she was so pumped to join hive, I taught her how to go about her introductory post, delegated hive power to her account, and congratulated her on taking her first step to blogging.

She did her intro post and began writing. She entered my dm to ask me questions every now and then. Questions I happily answered. There was a time she didn’t write for about two weeks, so I checked up on her, and she told me she didn’t know what to write. I sent her some prompts, she said she didn’t know how to answer them. I then advised her to go read responses on those prompts in their communities, to get insights. She agreed and we ended it there.

She still wrote nothing even after that, so I left her. After all, according to my dad, ‘one only does what is important to him or her’. Writing probably wasn’t her priority at the moment, so why I should I force her? Some weeks later, she began complaining about money issues to me when we saw, I asked her why she left hive, and she said ‘You know I’m not patient enough for that kind of money’. The moment I heard it, I ended everything concerning hive, and we talked about other things.

People claim they need something, and when a door is opened for them to access that thing, walking through the door becomes the problem. You don’t have the patience to invest your time in writing and earning, but you can whine about being broke most of the time? Continue with the delusion, we’ll see if it will be of use one day.

I love helping out my friends whatever way I can, but as much as hive is for everyone, it’s also not for everybody. I’ve had my fair share of experiences with onboarding people, and I know that many people tend to miss the part that hive might not pay out initially. The idea of simply writing, and earning for free is appealing to many, but when they find out that they need to actually put in the work, they lose interest.

Thanks for reading.
