Had it not been for the new animation, I wouldn't have noticed. It's been two years since I've been using [Monkeytype.com](https://monkeytype.com/), for almost every single day, and it pleased me to learn that it's their 5th anniversary. To see what happens when you click on the **MONKEYTYPE** logo at the top right.

Why does it matter so much to me, you might be wondering? Well, it doesn't as much. It's just me taking a moment to appreciate a tool that I have enjoyed for much of my time increasing my typing speed daily.
One of those random times I posted my typing speed, a friend responded with a screenshot of theirs. I like to think that the practice experience is slightly different across different platforms, but I really liked how his looked and wanted to try it. It was Monkeytype. And that's how I found it. What's really cool is that it's customizable.
From themes to the sounds it can make when you press a key to the variety of modes you can practice with, I just had to tinker around. I eventually found what I really liked - the theme, sound effects, font, and the modes I often use -- and stuck with them for a long time, until recently. Nothing much. Just wanted something different and fresh. And that's why I really like Monkeytype.

The first thing I do when I start up my PC is usually to practice on Monkeytype. It's been a routine since 2022. That's one of the little ways I improve. This is probably a good time to mention that I sit around 100 WPM now. That's pretty fast, actually, but it's not all that really matters. Writing this post, I probably sit between sixty and eighty for most of the time -- because I have to think and all, you know.
What matters most is fluency and reduced latency and friction between the ideas in my head and seeing them on screen. Writing or coding, yeah, I don't have to think much about where the keys are. That plays a part in my productivity. Would I like to be even faster? Yeah, but that's mostly an achievement thing. For now, my all-time high is 106 WPM in the 15-second category.

There's a whole dashboard, too. I don't visit there much, but that's where my entire typing record and stats sit. Which is really cool. If you look closely, cumulative time typing is 5 hours and 23 minutes. And there's also a Discord server. Nothing much goes on there, though.
My internals are rumbling in hunger at the moment, so I'm going to round this off now. Isn't more to say than Happy 5th Anniversary to all those who enjoy [Monkeytype](https://monkeytype.com/), though.
Now time for breakfast...
