Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today’s topic is from Hive Learners, and it says: **Business Minded.** So, let’s dive in.
Honestly, I think these days, people are after money. People now do things not because they love or have passion for it, but because they want to make money from it. I’ll say almost every job has become a business.
A typical example is the hospital. Hospitals are no longer what they used to be. Before, people became doctors or nurses because they had passion for it and wanted to help others — to the extent that they would treat patients without caring whether they had deposited money or not. But now, it feels like many hospitals care more about money than saving lives. If you don’t have money, some hospitals won’t even attend to you properly.
Yes, I understand that they need money to buy necessary things and keep the hospital running, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t care about their patients lives. Some doctors will even tell a patient’s family that if they don’t deposit money, they won’t start any treatment, even if the patient is in a critical condition.

Why is it that people are now after money instead of passion? That reminds me of when I was in SS3. I followed my big mummy to the hospital because her mum was admitted. I saw how some nurses were ignoring patients because they didn’t deposit any money for treatment. When I asked my big mummy why they were treating patients like that, she said that’s how they behave, if a patient doesn’t deposit money, they won’t attend to them. She also told me that’s exactly how they would have treated her mum if she hadn’t paid. She said before they even attended to her mum, she was asked to deposit #200,000. She begged them to start treatment first while she tried to raise the money, but they refused until she called her siblings and gathered the money before they started treatment. That’s so bad and uncalled for. A hospital that’s meant to save lives is now more concerned about money.

The same thing is also happening with schools. Many people now open school because they see it as a business. Some schools care more about collecting school fees than actually giving good education. I can still remember when I was in SS1. In my school, we were paying over #80,000 for school fees, yet the school refused to employ enough teachers. One teacher would be the one taking us two to three subjects instead of having different teachers for each subject.

Some people studied Mass Communication in school, but because they heard there’s money in selling drugs, they opened a pharmacy because of money. That’s not passion but love of money. You studied Mass Communication, and instead of looking for a job in that field, you went ahead to open a pharmacy because of the money. Then how will you know the right drugs to sell to your customers? Instead of giving headache medicine to someone who has a headache, you might end up giving stomach pain medicine instead.
Even in the business world, people open businesses mainly because they want to make money, not because they have passion for it. Some even sell fake items just to make profit. Things were not like this during our forefathers’ time. They became doctors because they had passion for it and wanted to save lives. Some became teachers because they wanted to impact knowledge and help students grow through sound education.
Now the question is: **how can we go back to when people worked for love and passion, not just for profit?** I believe before starting a career, we should first calm down and think deeply by asking ourselves: **Why am I doing this?** I believe If we choose a career, it should be something we truly enjoy, not something we do only for profit.
In conclusion, being business minded is a bad thing. And letting money control us and caring only about profit instead of passion is very wrong. It’s okay to make money, don’t get me wrong, but we should never allow the love of money to take away our humanity and passion.
