The world seems to be witnessing a paradigm shift in priorities. Passion-driven pursuits are being overshadowed by profit-driven endeavors. Many individuals are now driven by financial gains rather than a genuine love for their work. This shift raises concerns about the impact on personal fulfillment, creativity, and overall well-being.

Losing my mom at a young age due to a C-section had a profound impact on my life. I was only four, but it sparked a curiosity within me. I wanted to understand what happened and how I could help others avoid similar experiences. This drive led me to pursue a career in health sector which led me to pursue a career as a community health worker. During our school practical I was posted to Ward 7, I found it fascinating. After completing my program, I was eager to start working in a rehab center.

During my interview, the doctor asked if I was there for the money or to work. I replied that I was there to work, and he laughed. I wasn't sure why, but as I started working, I realized that many staff members couldn't last long due to low pay and high stress. Most didn't even last six months.

However, the doctor was surprised when I stayed for two years, consistently showing up with a joyful heart. I loved interacting with my clients, playing games with them, and charting their progress. My passion for mental health and helping others kept me motivated, and I felt fulfilled in my role.

As a community health in a rehab center, I've found purpose in caring for others. My passion for my work is evident to my boss, who once surprised me with a generous tip equivalent to six months' salary. He said I was one of the few staff members who truly loved their job, and it showed in the way I cared for our clients.

But nowadays current landscape is dominated by a culture of entrepreneurship and monetization. While these aspects are essential, they often come at the cost of personal satisfaction and happiness. The emphasis on generating wealth can lead to burnout, stress, and a sense of emptiness.

To reverse this trend, it's crucial to promote and support individuals who prioritize passion over profit. And we can achieve this by:

  • Celebrating creatives and innovators who have maintained their passion-driven approach
  • Encouraging educational initiatives that focus on skill development and personal growth
  • Fostering a culture that values work-life balance and happiness

By reevaluating our priorities and placing a greater emphasis on passion and personal fulfillment, we can create a more balanced and fulfilling environment. This shift would allow individuals to thrive in their pursuits, not just for financial gain but also for the joy and satisfaction that comes from doing something they love.

Moreover, this change can have a positive impact on mental health, creativity, and overall well-being. When individuals are passionate about their work, they're more likely to be motivated, innovative, and resilient.

To achieve this, we need to redefine what it means to be successful. Success should not be solely measured by wealth or status but also by personal fulfillment, happiness, and a sense of purpose.

In my own view, rediscovering passion in work is essential for creating a more balanced and fulfilling life. By promoting a culture that values passion, creativity, and personal growth, we can encourage individuals to pursue their dreams, not just for financial gain but for the joy and satisfaction that comes from doing something they love.
