Last Saturday, I decided to take a break from the busy weekdays and spend the day wandering around Karaköy with my friend Merve. After long hours at work during the week, walking through the streets of Istanbul always feels like a way of breathing again. We started our day with breakfast at Galataport. The sky was covered with soft gray clouds, a cruise ship was anchored right in front of us, and I was holding a glass of tea. Despite being in the heart of the city, it felt almost like I was on a short holiday.
The rain got heavier during the morning, so we stayed at a cozy café, sipping our coffee and enjoying some sweets while waiting for it to stop. Once the rain was over, the fresh air gave a new charm to the streets of Karaköy. Wet cobblestones reflected the lights, and the whole neighborhood seemed more alive. Every corner had a different character: a historical Ottoman wall here, a stylish coffee shop there, and colorful lights hanging across narrow passages.
Walking side by side with Merve, we often stopped to take photos. We wanted to capture the little details that make Karaköy so unique: the vines and lanterns covering the streets, the bright shop signs, the flowers hanging from old windows. It truly feels like each street in Karaköy whispers a new story.
By noon, we were hungry and headed straight to one of the most popular burger spots in the area: Baltazar. The place was small but very welcoming, especially after a rainy morning. And the burgers—well, they were beyond delicious. Fresh, juicy, and flavorful, they made us feel like we had found the perfect reward after our walk.
We continued strolling until the evening, wandering through hidden alleys and discovering new corners. Sometimes we entered little passages full of colors and cafés, sometimes we touched the old stone walls to feel the history, and sometimes we simply walked in silence, breathing in the atmosphere.
Karaköy is one of the oldest neighborhoods of Istanbul, yet it carries a modern spirit at every corner. The coexistence of historical architecture and trendy cafés or restaurants adds a unique charm to the area. In one street, you might find yourself touching the stones of an Ottoman wall, and just a few steps later, you’re under colorful lights in a modern passage. The beauty of Karaköy lies in how the past and the present walk hand in hand.
By the end of the day, Karaköy had given us both serenity and new memories to cherish. For me, Wednesday Walk is not only about steps—it’s about the moments you notice along the way, the people you meet, and the little stories hidden in the city. This day in Karaköy was exactly that: a blend of rain, laughter, good food, and endless streets to explore.

Keyifli Bir Yürüyüş: Karaköy’de Bir Gün Geçtiğimiz cumartesi günü, haftanın yoğun iş temposunu arkamda bırakıp yakın arkadaşım Merve ile Karaköy sokaklarına çıktım. Hafta içi masa başında geçen uzun saatlerden sonra hafta sonunu değerlendirmek, sokaklarda dolaşmak ve farklı köşeleri keşfetmek bana her zaman iyi gelir. Günümüz Galataport’ta kahvaltıyla başladı. Deniz kenarında, bulutların gökyüzünü griye boyadığı bir sabah, elimde çayım, önümde dev bir kruvaziyer gemisi… İstanbul’un kalabalığına rağmen kendimi tatilde gibi hissettim.
Sabah saatlerinde yağmur hızlandı, biz de kahvemizi içip tatlılarımızı yerken yağmurun dinmesini bekledik. Yağmurun ardından ortaya çıkan taze hava, Karaköy sokaklarını daha bir canlı kıldı. Islak taş kaldırımlar, üzerlerinden süzülen damlalar ve insanların telaşsız adımları arasında yürümek keyifliydi. Her köşede farklı bir doku vardı: bir yerde tarihi bir Osmanlı yapısı, biraz ileride şirin bir kahve dükkânı, bir başka sokakta rengârenk ışıklarla süslenmiş bir pasaj.
Merve ile yan yana yürürken sık sık durup fotoğraf çektik. Sokakların sunduğu detayları kaydetmek istedik: asma yapraklarının altından süzülen ışıklar, rengârenk tabelalar, pencerelerden sarkan çiçekler… Karaköy, İstanbul’un her adımda yeni bir hikâye fısıldayan semtlerinden biri gerçekten.
Öğleye doğru acıktık ve soluğu Karaköy’ün en bilinen burger mekânlarından biri olan Baltazar’da aldık. Mekânın küçük ama sıcak atmosferi, yağmurdan sonra iyice tatlı bir sığınak gibiydi. Hamburgerler ise gerçekten beklentimizin ötesindeydi: taze, lezzetli ve doyurucu. Belki de günün en keyifli anlarından biri orada gerçekleşti.
Karaköy, İstanbul’un en eski semtlerinden biri olmasına rağmen her adımda modern bir dokunuşu da hissettiren özel bir yer. Tarihi yapılar ile çağdaş kafe ve restoranların yan yana var oluşu, bu semte farklı bir çekicilik katıyor. Bir sokakta Osmanlı’dan kalma bir duvara dokunurken, birkaç adım sonra rengârenk ışıklarla süslenmiş modern bir pasajın içine giriyorsunuz. Karaköy’ün en güzel yanı, geçmişin ve bugünün aynı anda yan yana yürüyebilmesi.
Yağmurun ardından tertemiz havada akşama kadar ara sokaklarda dolaştık. Zaman zaman yeni keşfettiğimiz pasajlara girdik, bazen eski taş duvarlara dokunup o ruhu hissettik, bazen de sadece sessizce yürüyüp etrafı izledik. Günün sonunda Karaköy bize hem huzur hem de yeni anılar armağan etti. Wednesday Walk için böyle bir günün hikâyesini paylaşmak istedim çünkü her yürüyüşün sadece adımlardan ibaret olmadığını düşünüyorum. Bazen sokaklar size yeni bir enerji, bazen de ihtiyacınız olan sakinliği verir.
