It was on one of those perfect afternoons that is neither too hot nor too cold that I decided to visit the small town of Vizela, located in the district of Braga. Known mainly for its thermal baths, Vizela, however, has many more charms that can be revealed on a leisurely walk. And that's exactly what I did, a peaceful stroll through Parque das Termas, the true green heart of the city.

Foi numa destas tardes perfeitas que não faz muito calor nem muito frio, que decidi fazer uma visita à pequena cidade de Vizela, situada no distrito de Braga. Conhecida principalmente pelas suas termas, Vizela guarda, no entanto, muitos mais encantos que se revelam ao ritmo de uma caminhada calma. E foi precisamente isso que fiz, um passeio tranquilo pelo Parque das Termas, o verdadeiro coração verde da cidade.
After a light lunch on a nearby terrace, I began the tour through one of the park's entrances. Right there you can feel the freshness of the air, thanks to the constant presence of the Vizela River, which accompanies the route with its soft sound and clear waters. The park is a true haven of tranquility, although that afternoon it was full of life. Families, couples, children running and elderly people sitting and talking on the stone benches.

Depois de um almoço leve numa esplanada próxima, comecei o passeio por um dos acessos ao parque. Logo ali se sente a frescura do ar, graças à presença constante do rio Vizela, que acompanha o percurso com o seu som suave e as suas águas claras. O parque é um verdadeiro refúgio de tranquilidade, embora, naquela tarde, estivesse cheio de vida. Famílias, casais, crianças a correr e seniores sentados a conversar nos bancos de pedra.
Still, with some patience and some strategic detours, I managed to capture some faceless photographs, focusing on the details, the wooden walkways that wind through the bushes, the centuries-old bridges, the carefully tended garden areas, and even some swans and ducks that glide serenely in the lakes. Each bend in the path reveals a new scene, as if the park were in permanent mutation.

Ainda assim, com alguma paciência e alguns desvios estratégicos, consegui captar algumas fotografias sem rostos, focando-me nos detalhes, os passadiços de madeira que serpenteiam por entre os arbustos, as pontes centenárias, as zonas ajardinadas cuidadosamente tratadas, e até alguns cisnes e patos que deslizam serenamente nos lagos. Cada curva do caminho revela um novo cenário, como se o parque estivesse em permanente mutação.
The Rose sculpture, a modern symbol in a classical setting, installed on one of the wide lawns, where the trees open up to let the sun in. It's not hard to understand why it's so popular for photos, the contrast between the bright color of the piece and the greenery around it is irresistible. Many visitors calmly wait their turn to take a photo next to the Rose, a kind of modern symbol within this space so linked to nature and tradition.

A escultura da Rosa, símbolo moderno num cenário clássico, instalada num dos amplos relvados, onde as árvores se abrem para deixar entrar o sol. Não é difícil perceber porque é tão procurada para fotos, o contraste entre a cor viva da peça e o verde à sua volta é irresistível. Muitos dos visitantes esperam calmamente a sua vez para tirar aquela foto junto à Rosa, uma espécie de símbolo moderno no seio deste espaço tão ligado à natureza e à tradição.
The name Parque das Termas is not a coincidence. Vizela has been known for centuries for its thermal waters rich in therapeutic properties. These waters were already valued in Roman times, and later, in the 19th century, Vizela became one of the preferred destinations of the Portuguese elite for health treatments and relaxation.

O nome Parque das Termas não é ao acaso. Vizela é, há séculos, conhecida pelas suas águas termais ricas em propriedades terapêuticas. Já no tempo dos romanos estas águas eram valorizadas, e mais tarde, no século XIX, Vizela tornou-se um dos destinos preferidos da elite portuguesa para tratamentos de saúde e repouso.
The spas continue to operate today, in restored historic buildings, offering treatments ranging from physical rehabilitation to general well-being. This thermal heritage is, in fact, spread throughout the park, with small landmarks and fountains that refer to the value of the waters that run there, literally, waters with history.

As termas continuam a funcionar hoje, em edifícios históricos restaurados, oferecendo tratamentos que vão desde a reabilitação física até ao bem-estar geral. Essa herança termal está, aliás, espalhada por todo o parque, com pequenos marcos e fontes que remetem para o valor das águas que ali correm, literalmente, águas com história.
The afternoon ended with the sun slowly setting, reflecting on the surface of the river, between golden leaves and soft shadows. Vizela surprised me not only with the serene beauty of the park, but also with the balance between the natural and the urban, between heritage and leisure. It's one of those little towns that invites you to come back, with your camera in hand, but, above all, with time to breathe. If you are looking for a place to spend a well-spent afternoon, with greenery, water, history and even a touch of romance... Vizela awaits you.

A tarde terminou com o sol a baixar lentamente, refletindo-se na superfície do rio, entre folhas douradas e sombras suaves. Vizela surpreendeu-me não só pela beleza serena do parque, mas também pelo equilíbrio entre o natural e o urbano, entre o património e o lazer. É uma daquelas pequenas cidades que convidam ao regresso, de câmara na mão, mas, sobretudo, com tempo para respirar. Se procuras um lugar para uma tarde bem passada, com verde, água, história e até um toque de romantismo... Vizela espera-te.
