Today I made a sandwich with home grown microgreens and a homemade loaf of bread, it was excellently delightful!

Homegrown sprouts and Microgreens are an excellent source of phytonutrients and make a great addition to a sandwich or a salad.

If your interested in growing your own sprouts or micro-greens at home, its quite easy. All you need is to purchase a package of sprouting seeds, lay out an inch or so of potting soil, or the growing medium of your choice, then sprinkle on some water so the soil is moist enough for the seeds to germinate(relative depending on how hot or dry it is).

When using larger seed like the Hemp seed shown here(another article on hemp Microgreens later) it works best to cover them with a thin layer of soil, then water them to ensure faster germination.

Spread the seed so they are all about 1/8" away from each other(depending on seed size) then wait 1-2 weeks depending on the crop that you want, 1 week for first leaf micros and 2 weeks for true leaf micros.

If you would like to replicate the sandwich that I made, here is an ingredients list:

  • Bread of your choice
  • Cheese of your choice(I prefer pepper jack or cheddar)
  • Dijon mustard(or the mustard of your choice)
  • Veganaise(or regular mayo if thats what you prefer)
  • Onion
  • Microgreens
  • lettuce
  • Italian seasoning
  • Balsamic vinegar
  • pickles & jalopenos(optional)
  • love

Even though its the last one, love is a key ingredient, it makes everything taste better!
