Hidden behind unlabeled doors that hospital personnel feign not to notice, the lost ward somewhere between geriatrics and pediatrics. Directories show the elevator skipping its floor as maintenance, but the nurses know. Stories abound among them.

Non-sequential room numbers. Patients who check in but never check out have their records inexplicably disappearing from the computer. The ward that cares for diseases medicine has not yet named the woman who grows younger every full moon, the man whose shadow functions separately, children born with memories of other people's life.

Taking a wrong turn during a late-night emergency, Dr. Martinez found it inadvertently while doing his residency. He found beds loaded with the impossible: a comatose patient whose dreams seeped into reality, decorating the walls with sleeping dreams. Twins who shared consciousness as well as DNA completed their medical tests from different rooms.

The budget provides money for unique situations while the authorities reject its existence. Insurance firms assign a discrete code for it. And occasionally, very seldom, families get discharge paperwork for family members they never knew were patients at the institution.
