To ostracize the ostrich is to push away the creature that hides when fear arrives. Hoping danger will pass if unseen, the bird bows its head and buries its eyes. Rejection comes from others' resistance to grasp its defense, not from its own weakness.
Inside each of us is a small ostrich; moments where avoidance seems safer than confrontation. Society sometimes ridicules this instinct as cowardice, forgetting that survival has several forms. To ostracize the ostrich is to shun compassion, to unaccept that even the act tells a story of fortitude.
Instead of banishing it, maybe we learnt something from its silence, that action retreat is a tactic instead of capitulation and even dead heads can wake when the tempest has gone.
