Tucked away in Bukit Batok is one of those places you almost can’t believe exists in Singapore — Little Guilin. The first time I saw it, I was struck by how the cliffs rise out of the lake and how still the water is, almost like glass. On calm days the reflections are so sharp, it feels like the world is doubled.
From Quarry to Quiet Spot
It’s funny to think this place used to be a working granite quarry. Back in the 70s and 80s, the whole area was dusty and noisy, until the site was shut down and left to fill with rainwater. Instead of clearing it, the authorities kept it as a park. Best decision ever.
Now, the cliffs are framed by greenery and the lake looks like something out of a painting. No wonder people nicknamed it Xiao Guilin after the famous scenery in China.
Why the Reflections Stand Out
The best part about Little Guilin has to be the way the cliffs reflect on the water. If you go in the early morning or late afternoon, the whole scene glows — sometimes golden, sometimes slightly misty. It’s one of those simple views that makes you pause, take out your phone or camera, and just try to capture it.
Photographers love it, but honestly, even without a camera it’s worth just sitting on a bench and watching the light shift.

The park itself isn’t huge, but it’s a nice escape:
- Walk or jog around the paths and enjoy different views of the quarry.
- Sit and chill by the water — it’s surprisingly peaceful for a spot right next to housing blocks.
- Look for wildlife — if you’re lucky, you might see eagles overhead or hear bulbuls in the trees.
- Catch the sunset and watch the reflections change as the sky darkens.
A Small Gem in the City
Little Guilin may not take long to explore, but it’s one of those places that reminds you Singapore still has quiet corners. The reflections on the lake are what make it special — a simple, beautiful sight that never really gets old.
