Voici la pièce finale de mon dernier projet d'illustrations intérieures : celles du roman de Wendall Utroi, La Légende des Klungs, Tome 1 : Le dompteur de pluie. L'illustration du jour met en scène Kalyn, le héros, face à la grande arène d'entraînement.

This is the final piece of my most recent project of interior illustrations: those from Wendall Utroi's novel, La Légende des Klungs, Tome 1 : Le dompteur de pluie (French only).The illustration of the day shows Kalyn, the hero, facing the large training arena.

Matériel

Stylos de dessin industriel, largeurs de pointe de 0.05 à 0.8

Process

Planche de recherches / Research board

Je commence par réaliser un plan de l'espace. En effet,à la lecture, le lecteur n'a pas forcément la même vision des choses que l'auteur. Ici, pour ce lieu à la configuration importante, je préférais réaliser un croquis pour être sûre que j'avais bien compris la description.

I start by making a space map. Indeed, when reading, the reader does not necessarily have the same vision of things as the author. Here, for this place with its important configuration, I preferred to make a sketch to be sure that I had understood the description correctly.

Ensuite, je propose à mon client plusieurs angles de vue.

Then, I offer my client several angles of view.

Son choix se porte sur la composition 1, où l'on voit le héros au premier plan.

His choice is composition 1, where we see the hero in the foreground.

Crayonné / Pencilled

J'utilise encore une fois le crayon rouge mais, pour la présentation au client, je passe tout ça en noir et blanc.

I use the red pencil again, but for the presentation to the client, I put it all in black and white.

Encrage / Inking

Ensuite, plus qu'à encrer !

Then, all you have to do is ink it!

Petite modification suite à une remarque judicieuse du client : j'avais juste oublié la pluie. Pour un livre ayant pour titre "le Dompteur de Pluie"... c'était gênant.

A small modification following a judicious remark from the client: I had just forgotten the rain. For a book called "The Rain Tamer"... it was embarrassing.

Enfin, je passe tout ça dans photoshop pour un "nettoyage" des blancs et une suppression des tracés rouges (Je détaille Ici comment on fait).

Finally, I pass all this in photoshop for a "cleaning" of the whites and a deletion of the red plots (I detail here how it is done).
