Several values have shaped my journey through life, but three have stood out consistently as guiding lights: empathy, gratitude, and resilience. Each of these values has influenced the way I make decisions, build relationships, and face challenges.
For this week in ladies of hive, the topic is;
What are the top three values that guide your major life decisions and which value do you find the most challenging to practice consistently?
Empathy
Empathy has always been at the center of how I connect with others. I believe that trying to understand people’s feelings and perspectives helps me make decisions that are not only good for me but also considerate of those around me. It teaches me patience, kindness, and the ability to listen, especially when I don’t agree.
Gratitude
Gratitude, on the other hand, grounds me. No matter the situation, I try to focus on what I have rather than what I lack. It has taught me to see blessings in the smallest things, and to approach life with a heart that is thankful. This mindset has made me more optimistic, even in seasons of scarcity.
Resilience
The most challenging value to practice consistently, however, is resilience. It is easy to say “never give up,” but the real test comes when life hits hard. I remember vividly when I lost my dad the very year I gained admission into the university. It felt like my world had been pulled apart. Financially, things were tough, and I could have easily forfeited the admission. But something in me refused to give up. I worked hard, leaned on the support of a few amazing people, and kept pushing even when it seemed impossible. That persistence paid off—two months ago, I graduated from the university.
Resilience has taught me that strength is not the absence of struggle but the courage to keep going despite it. And though it remains the hardest value to practice, it is also the one that has given me the greatest victories.
