I laughed reading this week's topic because it's funny to me, like, I can't fathom how on earth a normal human being with their senses intact would ever think they can own another human. It's not like it's the slave and master kind of relationship that existed in the olden days. Even parents can't say they own their children. I believe that in this present day and time every human, regardless of their status, age, or background, has an inherent dignity and autonomy. So the thought of one human owning another just doesn't feel balanced to me, because how can one person seek to exert control over another? It's like stealing their freedom from them.

Having such a kind of mindset In romantic relationships, it mostly leads to possessiveness, jealousy, or even emotional manipulation. I don't think any partner, whether in a romantic relationship or not, has the right to claim ownership over another person. Everyone of us has our own thoughts, feelings, desires, and boundaries, which I personally feel must be respected and prioritized.
I personally feel insecurities are one of the reasons a partner thinks they own their partner and want to exert control over them. Mostly this happens when a partner feels uncertain or threatened in their relationship, so the best way they know to seek reassurance is through claiming possession or dominance over their partner.
There are some factors that make a relationship a healthy one. These are mutual respect, trust, and open communication.
I believe for any relationship to thrive, both partners must recognize and respect each other's autonomy and individuality. They are supposed to know that their partner is not a property or their possession, but instead that their partner is a unique individual that has his/her own thoughts and feelings and By embracing such a mindset, I believe this would foster a deeper sense of trust, intimacy, and connection in their relationship.
And this is not just limited to romantic relationships. No parent, family member, or friend has the right to claim ownership over another person. Each individual deserves and should be treated with dignity, respect, and autonomy, regardless of their age, relationship status, or background.
