Hoy es el último día de clases de mi hijo menor antes de que arranquen las vacaciones de invierno por estos lares. Y si bien uno podría pensar que es un trámite más, una caminata más en medio de la gélida Argentina, la realidad es que hay días que vienen con una carga emocional que en ocasiones te agarran desprevenido. >! [English]Today is my youngest son's last day of school before winter break begins in these parts. And while one might think that it's just another routine task, another walk in the freezing cold of Argentina, the reality is that some days come with an emotional weight that can sometimes catch you off guard. > > ___  Esta mañana lo acompañé como siempre. Mochila al hombro, sonrisa de costado y pícara, esa forma tan suya de caminar con paso corto y entusiasmo largo. Y ahí iba yo, haciéndome el que no siente nada raro, pero sabiendo que cada paso rumbo al colegio es un paso menos que me queda acompañándolo así, tan chiquito y tierno como es, a pesar de que su cuerpo casi llega a mi altura, con su tan solo 12 años. >! [English] This morning I accompanied him as usual. Backpack on his shoulder, mischievous smile on his face, that way he has of walking with short steps and long enthusiasm. And there I was, pretending not to feel anything strange, but knowing that every step toward school is one less step I have left to accompany him like this, so small and tender as he is, even though his body is almost as tall as mine, at only 12 years old. > > ___  Saqué algunas fotos y no fue algo planeado, fue más bien como una urgencia del corazón. [English] I took some photos, and it wasn't something I planned; it was more like an urge from the heart. I record this and save it because I know I can't let it pass. You don't realize it, but kids grow like grass after rain, as my mother would say, and before you know it, they're teaching you how to use the latest app. Does the same thing happen to you? The photos above are of the moon and some teros flying, as if welcoming their last day of school. > > ___  Pero hoy, sacando las últimas fotos, ya que en un momento me dice un tanto tímido, *ya basta con la foto, no* 🤔. Sumado a que se me congelaban las manos, puesto que estamos atravesando por los últimos días de inviernos del mes de julio. Su frase es la pura manifestación de que está creciendo y buscando su independencia. Y lo digo por experiencia propia, ya que soy padre de tres y este es el último. >! [English] But today, as I was taking the last photos, he said to me somewhat shyly, “Enough with the photos, no.” 🤔. Added to that, my hands were freezing, since we are going through the last days of winter in July. His statement is a clear sign that he is growing up and seeking his independence. And I say this from personal experience, as I am the father of three, and this is the youngest. > > ___  Y mientras escribo estas líneas, reflexiono y pienso que también nosotros necesitamos vacaciones. Vacaciones del apuro cotidiano, del reloj que no perdona, del dale que llegamos tarde, del lavarte los dientes que nos vamos y hoy, del no te olvides de llevar lo que vas a compartir en tu último día. >! [English] And as I write these lines, I reflect and think that we also need a vacation. A vacation from the daily rush, from the unforgiving clock, from the “hurry up, we're late,” from the “brush your teeth, we're leaving,” and today, from the “don't forget to bring what you're going to share on your last day.” > > ___  *Hoy le dije, hijo, disfruta de tu último día de clases y comienzo de vacaciones y no te voy a negar que también lo pensé para mí.* >! No sé si en tu país arrancaron las vacaciones, terminaron quizás o tal vez no existan. Aquí en la Argentina, comenzamos 15 días con los niños full time en nuestros hogares.
