For today's post, I bring you the beautiful and radiant ***Aphelandra squarrosa***, popularly known as **Zebra Plant** and by other common names, depending on the region where it is found, such as **Aphelandra**, **Aphelander**, **Bicolor Balsam**, **Aphelandra Coral**, **Aphelandra Shrimp** or **Aphelandra Zebra**. Siempre es un gusto saludarles, desearles mucha salud y bienestar y, por supuesto, compartir con Ustedes las imágenes que he logrado de enigmáticas plantas y sus hermosas flores, siempre con la esperanza de que sean de su agrado. >Para el post de hoy, les traigo a la hermosa y radiante ***Aphelandra squarrosa***, conocida popularmente como **Planta Cebra** y por otros nombres comunes, según la región donde se encuentre, como **Afelandra**, **Añilillo**, **Bálsamo bicolor**, **Coral afelandra**, **Camarón** o **Cebra afelandra**. Es una especie originaria de **América del Sur**, principalmente de **Brasil**.

Its botanical name is ***Aphelandra squarrosa***, of which, the name of the **genus** ***Aphelandra*** is the combination of the Greek adjective ***apheles*** meaning **simple** and the noun **aner** or ***andros*** meaning **man** in reference to its anthers consisting of a single locule. Its specific name is the Latin adjective ***squarrosa*** meaning with rough parts and with downward curved tips which, in the case of ***Aphelandra squarrosa*** refers to its **bracts** imbricate downward curved at their apexes. The **Zebra Plant** has a great attractiveness that is sustained by the beautiful **dark green** foliage with thick **cream** or **white** veins that give it that distinctive **Cebra** appearance that has earned it that name and, by the compact pineapple-shaped spikes that contain its **flowers** and **bracteoles** of **radiant yellow** color. >Su nombre botánico es ***Aphelandra squarrosa***, del cual, el nombre del **género** ***Aphelandra*** es la combinación del adjetivo griego ***apheles*** que significa **simple** y del sustantivo **aner** o ***andros*** que significa **hombre** en referencia a sus anteras constituidas por un solo lóculo. Su nombre específico es el adjetivo latino ***squarrosa*** que significa con partes rugosas y con puntas curvadas hacia abajo que, en el caso de la ***Aphelandra squarrosa*** se refiere a sus **brácteas** imbricadas curvadas hacia abajo en sus vértices. >La **Planta Cebra** posee un gran atractivo que se sustenta en el precioso follaje **verde oscuro** con gruesas nervaduras de color **crema** o **blanco** que le dan ese distintivo aspecto de **Cebra** que le ha valido dicho nombre y, por las compactas espigas en forma de piña que contienen a sus **flores** y **brácteas** de color **amarillo** radiante.

This small shrub grows up to a maximum of 80 cm, which makes it ideal for indoor decoration, giving us a sense of well-being and joy with its dazzling colors, but to achieve this, it is necessary to dedicate certain care such as the proper choice of its **location** as it needs a lot of **light** to stimulate **flowering** but, at the same time, it should not receive direct sunlight. In addition, it is necessary to keep its soil constantly moist, but without waterlogging, to prevent its leaves from falling. It does not need to be **pruned**, just cut the flower spike when it withers to allow new shoots to emerge. Definitely a beautiful plant that is a pleasure to grow! >Este pequeño arbusto crece hasta un máximo de 80 cm por lo que la hace ideal para la decoración en interiores, aportándonos una sensación de bienestar y alegría con sus colores deslumbrantes pero, para lograrlo, es necesario dedicarle ciertos cuidados como la elección adecuada de su **ubicación** ya que necesita mucha **luminosidad** para estimular la **floración** pero, al mismo tiempo, no debe recibir directamente los rayos solares. Además, es necesario mantener su suelo constantemente húmedo, pero sin encharcamientos, para evitar que sus hojas se caigan. No necesita ser **podada**, sólo cortar la espiga floral cuando se marchite para que surjan nuevos brotes. >Definitivamente, ¡una preciosa planta que da gusto cultivar!
