Today, I finished watching a movie that has amassed over 2.5 million viewers since its release in our country, Indonesia. A film by Yandy Laurens. It's a movie based on a series from a sweetener brand eight years ago.
The story follows a wife from the future who returns to the past to meet her husband and change his bad habits. Set in Croatia, the visual of the movie offers beautiful cityscapes that are a visual feast for the eyes. The film represents Sore's point of view. Sore is the wife of Jonathan, who dies young from a heart attack in the future. In Indonesian, sore means "afternoon," which is synonymous with "twilight" and "sky."
Sore returns to Jonathan's past to change his bad habits of drinking, smoking, and staying up late. She wants him to live a healthier life and enjoy exercising. One thing I took away from this movie is Sore's unconditional love for Jonathan.
Her grief after his death was unresolved, and she wanted to change things from the beginning. Sore first appears when Jo wakes up in her bed in the morning. Due to Sore's guidance, Jonathan's life slowly became healthier. However, he returned to his bad habits. When Sore found out, she became upset and created a time loop that continuously repeated, starting from the bed.
It was repeated over and over again until I got tired of imagining being Sore that finally realized humans cannot change unless they desire it themselves. I remember one sentence from this movie: “There are three things we cannot change: pain, the past, and death.” Sore realized these three things when he had to repeat the time loop. She realized that her role was to support Jo in the process, not force Jo to change. Because, in the end, death is inevitable. As time passes, the timeline changes, and Sore begins to fear that her time is up. When she returns to the beginning, when Jo asks her who she is, she no longer answers. "Hi, I'm Sore, your wife from the future." But "I'm Sore, your forever wife". I cried again at this point because true love is timeless, even when the person you love is gone. The love in your heart stays forever. It remains no matter what.
This movie depicts Sore's wounds very nicely and made a deep impression on me, especially since I lost my first love and beloved father this year. That's my whole review of the movie. I love it and would give it a 9/10.
