¡Saludos mis hermosas abejas lectoras! Hoy para variar un poco en las reseñas que he estado haciendo últimamente, quiero dar mi opinión sobre el libro "Un Velo Escarlata" y tendrá algunas menciones un poco específicas así que desde este momento advierto que hay un poco de spoiler por si aún no lo has leído y lo tienes en tu lista de lectura. Este es el primer libro de la bilogía escrita por Shelby Mahurin, la misma autora de la trilogía "Asesino de Brujas". Los hechos que relatan en esta historia están ubicados cronológicamente luego de los sucesos de la trilogía principal y muchos de sus personajes provienen de allí, así que leer este libro sin haber leído aquella trilogía pudiera generar cierta confusión respecto a los personajes secundarios, aunque Shelby se asegura de brindar los datos necesarios para comprender sin rozar el spoiler.

Este libro nos cuenta la historia de Celie en un mundo de fantasía donde se mezclan y reversionan distintas leyendas y creencias. Los primeros capítulos son bastante introductorios, si no posees paciencia, se te harán tediosos, pero todo mejora en cuanto aparece Michal para ponerle sazón a la cosa. Michal es vampiro (inserte fondo musical de Crepúsculo 🤭), y es lo único que vale totalmente la pena en este libro porque si fuera por Celie, hace mucho que habría usado el libro como bloque en la construcción de una pared (es un toche de libro).

The first chapters are quite introductory, and if you don't have patience, you'll find them tedious, but everything improves as soon as Michal appears to spice things up. Michal is a vampire (insert Twilight soundtrack here 🤭), and she's the only thing that makes this book worthwhile because if it were up to Celie, she would have used the book as a brick to build a wall a long time ago (it's a heavy book).

La protagonista tiene un pasado trágico y un trauma justificado, pero no deja de ser un poco inmadura e irracional. Así que básicamente me pasé la lectura con la mano en cara o volteando los ojos con cada tontería que hacía. Con respecto a las criaturas que hacen su aparición, me gustó la forma en que fueron presentadas, aunque sin novedad alguna, fue familiar y cómodo de leer, pero sin impacto más allá de uno que otro diálogo sorprendente. Tiene plot twists que me agarraron fuera de base, yo sospechaba de todos cuando introdujeron el personaje del Nigromante, hasta creí que podría ser Michal, pero mi hombre vampiro es demasiado guapo para rebajarse a ese nivel; pero la verdad que no esperaba quién resultó ser el causante de tanto caos, aunque su historia y motivación dio sentido al subtitulo en la portada "el amor nunca muere".

So basically, I spent the whole book with my hand over my face or rolling my eyes at every silly thing she did. As for the creatures that make an appearance, I liked the way they were presented. Although there was nothing new about them, it was familiar and comfortable to read, but without any impact beyond the occasional surprising dialogue. There are plot twists that caught me off guard. I suspected everyone when they introduced the Necromancer character. I even thought it could be Michal, but my vampire man is too handsome to stoop to that level. But I really didn't expect who turned out to be the cause of so much chaos, although his story and motivation made sense of the subtitle on the cover, “love never dies.”

En el final ocurrieron tantas cosas que quiero leerlo de nuevo para asegurarme de que no me perdí de ningún detalle. Al leerlo me dejó este sabor amargo de la confusión porque creí que le faltaba una parte porque no tenía sentido lo que leía, era todo un caos, sucedieron muchas cosas al mismo tiempo y el final fue abierto, así que ahora necesito ya que Shelby saque el siguiente libro para poder aclarar algunas dudas. >So many things happened at the end that I want to read it again to make sure I didn't miss any details. Reading it left me with a bitter taste of confusion because I thought a part was missing since what I was reading didn't make sense.
