One more month, and then summer will start in the southern hemisphere.
It feels like Christmas is in a rush to get to us, as time flies. In the meantime, we wish everyone to have a great new October month.
I have some blossoms, birds, and succulent flower colors to share with you.
It's been a lovely springtime here, cold to start with but gradually our temperatures are starting to increase. They reckon there are still some rains in the offing, but thankfully it will not be as cold and wet as our winter rains. The great thing about spring, is that most everything is new in nature and there is an abundance of colors on show.
For instance, further up on the west coast tourists come to the Cape to view the carpets of wildflowers that cover the mountain slopes, a beautiful sight to see many acres of wildflowers of all colors. The wetlands and the lagoons are also alive with many species of birds, such as flamingoes et al. Of course, spring is also baby time in nature, and I already got my fair share of some bird babies on camera. Come and see.
No, I don't know these blossoms, but maybe someone can tell me what they are.
All that I know, is that the blossoms are beautiful.
Now let's have a look at some bird colors.
I am inclined to say that this is a Yellow Canary, as we cannot find this bird in our bird book.
This one, we all know, as it is an African Hoopoe (Upupa africana).
And finally, some succulents of the Ice Plant family (Aizoaceae).
This is called a Sour Fig (Carpobrotus edulis).
And the ones below are Purple Sour Figs (Carpobrotus acinaciformis).
Just a brief idea of some lovely spring colors, and the sad thing is that many of the flowers will start to wilt when summer is at full tilt. That is because of the blazing African sun. Even the wildflowers in the fields disappear under the severe heat, and so springtime is the best to see the flowers. We are also starting to thaw out now after our cold and wet winter, and lately a few clear sunshiny days have made things so much better.
Strange beings, us humans, as in summer we complain about the heat and we cannot wait for winter, and then when winter arrives then we complain about the cold, and we long for summer. We even complain in the spring and autumn (fall) seasons, moaning that they are still not warm or cool enough. Or maybe we want more rain, or is it less of it? Why don't we just fully embrace each season when it arrives, and make the best of things? Such is life.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
