Shots of a half sun halo and a full moon halo.

...and then you will see shots of a full moon halo. 003.jpg

Half of a sun halo means that only soft fairy rain will be on its way in a day or two. Although they are tiny drops, they can still wet everything, and I think that they like to wet my camera. Maybe the little drops have a grudge against my camera, as I can't get shots of them to show you guys :)

A halo (from Ancient Greek ἅλως (hálōs) 'threshing floor, disk') is an optical phenomenon produced by light (typically from the Sun or Moon) interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. Halos can have many forms, ranging from colored or white rings to arcs and spots in the sky. Many of these appear near the Sun or Moon, but others occur elsewhere or even in the opposite part of the sky. Among the best known halo types are the circular halo (properly called the 22° halo), light pillars, and sun dogs, but many others occur; some are fairly common while others are extremely rare.

You can get a full description of halos at the Wikipedia source in the link below.

Sadly, the sky started to cloud over later in the day covering the sun, and I was so disappointed, as I was hoping for a clear sky to get the latest full moon on camera. 034.JPG

Ever seen a full moon halo? Only the second time that I see full moon halo.

Mother Nature had a surprising gift in store for me, as she felt my disappointment about the sky being clothed in cloud. 001.JPG

It was right above our heads around midnight, and I took many shots of it, but they all look the same, so I am only showing you two here. 003.JPG

I zoomed in on the full moon in the center of the halo, and this was all that I could get in the cloudy skies. 006.JPG

But let me tell you that I was not disappointed anymore, as the full moon halo was a wonderful gift. So strange how things can get turned around in a couple of hours, and it also happens in our lives. For instance, you apply for a job, and the job interview is a great success according to you. You expect to get the job immediately, but they tell you that they will contact you. After a week, disappointment sets in, but then after the weekend on Monday the employer calls to ask when you can start. Immediate relief.

There are so many disappointments in life nowadays, but we can always have hope for a miracle, and I can tell you that I was very glad to get a full moon halo. There is no difference between a sun and a moon halo, as both take place in the same manner: ice crystals. It is still winter here, and cold, which is ideal weather for halos to be formed. Another quick story that I can tell you, is that the farm workers told me, that they all believe that a halo is a sign that it will rain, and it was proven true as every time I see a halo, rain will fall.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
