I have done quite a few posts of the moon, but this new one is my best thus far.
Her husband, Mr. Sun has gone to bed, and she decided to show me that there is no comparison between her light and mankind's lights. A streetlamp can only cover the area below it, whereas the moon can light the earth.
A funny thing happened, as I took the moon photos on 2025/08/08 and after I downloaded the photos, I started this post at 08/08 pm. What a strange coincidence.
We have a constant battle here with clouds and earlier on, I couldn't even see the moon, as it was covered with clouds. But like I said above, I know how to wait, and eventually the moon started to clear from the clouds. We knew that the full moon would only appear on the 9th of August, but we also knew that on the 8th of August the moon would be at 99% full. So, I will also be out there on the 9th and will share if I get anything.
My thought was to take sunset shots, but as we arrived, I saw something else.
This was what I saw, and so, I decided to rather concentrate on the rising moon.
And so, I started to play the waiting game, called human patience, as I knew that the moon would rise to beat that lamp.
After a long wait, darkness fell, and I stepped out of our car to get the moon in this position below, above the lamp.
And finally, the battle was won, as the moon started to rise above the lamp.
This was what I saw earlier on, and I knew that I would not get the moon in that cloudy haze. That was also the catalyst that sparked my idea to rather go and get the sunset. But then, as you saw above, Mother nature had another idea lying in wait for me.
It was really a splendid show, and I was really chuffed to get these moon shots. I think that you are also familiar with that happy feeling when you get something unexpected like this right. We have a deep passion for nature, and over the years, we have also incorporated lessons about the importance of nature into some of Papillon's projects. Littering is a bane that affects everyone, especially in the townships, as it draws rats and other pests into the littered areas. Not only that, but it also soils the rivers, dams, and the oceans.
Education is the key to better lives for all, and thankfully Papillon has had many successes over the years. But to me, it's only a drop into the vast ocean of needs. Each day holds the opportunity to improve the lives and life around one in some way. Some solutions are simple and small, and can be implemented within a short time span, with others needing a bit more time and work. But every deed is that drop, along with all the other drops, that makes the dam full, that makes the river rise, and that makes for the beautiful ocean that gives life.
Such is life.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
