*"Mír a zdar dalekému i blízkému“ (“Peace and prosperity to those far and near”)* – that’s the inscription on a building in Prague. It came to mind as I sorted through the last batch of photos from the recent weekend.
The "near" ones are pictures of small natural elements: insects, flowers... Most of them were taken with a telephoto lens with a focal length between 200 and 300 mm. You see, a long focal length is useful not only for zooming in on distant subjects but also for macro photography when you can’t get too close to the object for some reason.
*„Mír a zdar dalekému i blízkému“* ‒ to je nápis na jedné pražské budově. Napadlo mě to, když jsem vybral poslední dávku fotek z posledního víkendu.
Ty blízké ‒ to jsou fotky drobných přírodnin. Hmyz, květiny… Většinou jsem je fotil teleobjektivem ohniskem mezi 200 a 300 mm. Totiž dlouhé ohnisko má smysl nejen pro přiblížení vzdálených objektů, ale i pro focení v makro režimu, kdy se k objektu z nějakých důvodů nelze přiblížit.
While the "near" shots were taken from about half a meter away, the "far" one was of a stork captured with a 600 mm lens from 80 meters away. At that moment, a nearby field was being harvested for something green, and the storks probably recognized that small rodents and amphibians were suddenly without cover. There were about ten storks in that field. I waited for a while because I wanted to photograph at least one with its wings spread. Unfortunately, the storks were too busy eating and didn’t seem to be in the mood to fly at all. Well, not every day is a perfect day.
Zatímco „blízké“ bylo focené cca z půl metru, to „vzdálené“ byl čáp, focený ohniskem 600 mm na vzdálenost 80 metrů. Totiž na vedlejším poli zrovna probíhala sklizeň něčeho zeleného, a čápi nejspíš poznali, že drobní hlodavci a obojživelníci se najednou ocitli bez ochrany porostu. Bylo těch čápů na tom poli ‒ no, možná deset. Chvíli jsem čekal, protože jsem chtěl vyfotit aspoň jednoho s roztaženými křídly. Bohužel, čápi se pořád jen cpali a na létání neměli zřejmě vůbec náladu. Holt ‒ není každý den posvícení.
