It was always portrayed as a far fetched conspiracy theory, but as of October 2025 it is a reality in Belgium. Your CO2 footprint will be coupled to your bank account. At any time the bank will estimate your CO2 footprint based on your expenditure of your bank account.

In my opinion a complete breach of privacy rules, and a start of a totalitarian state.

It’s just a matter of time before your CO2 footprint will be budgeted into your bank account and the CBDC’s will implement a system in which you can only spend depending on your CO2 budget.

The failed attempt with the eNaira CBDC in Nigeria should show us it is of no value to the community!
