Before writing this post, I checked my WorldMapPin page to see if I had already created a post about Calpe, a beautiful Spanish city on the Mediterranean Sea, and to my surprise, I have no post about this specific part of it! ๐ฑ I do go there at least once per month, and I took hundreds of photos, but I have no idea why I didn't publish them... Yet... This time, I will take you on a walk around the Salines de Calp, a salt lake situated in the heart of the city, where you can embark on a Birdwatching route.
As my wife plays piano, in the mornings, during breakfast in a hotel in this city, I have around 2 hours for a walk in the area... Of course, as I like nature, I try to pick routes where it's peaceful, and on Sundays, at 9 AM, it is usually peaceful everywhere... ๐ After a long Saturday night, tourists are usually sleeping, or just waking up and having breakfast, listening to live piano music... ๐ถ
There will be a couple of photos/banners like this one in this post, where you can find out more about this great lake, the importance of salt in he past, animals that live there, etc.
To leave more space to animals, there is only one route around the lake, and it is pretty narrow... The rest is very dense bush and small trees, where you can't really go into, as of thorns, which works as a natural "human repellent" ๐
On the other side, there are places specially designed for people to enjoy the surroundings, without disturbing animals... You can "peek" through a narrow slot in the "wooden wall" and take some amazing photos...
As I had only my mobile phone camera, this is the best I could have done...
You can check out the list of birds that you can find here, and the best month to search for them...
We are somewhere in the middle of a route around the lake and close to the city center on the left side...
...another birdwatching "hideout" if you are searching for good photo shots!
I told you that it's almost impossible to come close to the lake shore due to dense bush, but luckily, there was one place created for tourists and nature lovers where you can do it! There is a wooden path/bridge created over the bush and mud, where you can pass closer to the lake, sit down on the bench, and enjoy the views!
You have probably noticed that the first part of the path was just a simple trail, while this part was more prepared with wooden bridges and pathways... That's because we are closer to the sea level, the lake is connected to the sea, and in general, there is more mud and water due to atmospheric influences (rain, fog, mist, etc).
Like I said, I had only my mobile phone camera, which doesn't have a good zoom-in, so my birdwatching photos suck big time... lol... I can't remember, I saw this bird on that birdwatching panel! Intruder!! ๐
And for this photo... You will have to believe me on my word, these white spots in the water are flamingos! Usually, they are always on the other side of the lake where you are... lol... Note to myself: Buy a camera with a powerful zoom for the next visit!
I tried to do some fish photography, too! Probably failed on that too, but again, you have to believe me that the black spot above is a fish... ๐
And the small wooden bridge takes us back to civilization... Roads, cars, a busy street... But...
There was another peaceful place to spend the morning... I had breakfast in a small bar by the sea and did a bit of my HIVE early morning "work"... Who needs a better office than that!
PS. I found a few more photos from the walk that I had 2 weeks after the first one, where I took a photo by the lake, of a blooming cactus plant! I had to add them to the post and share with you as they are beautiful!
