Listening to What My Eyes Are Telling Me

Lately I’ve been dealing with a series of mild headaches, and I suspect the culprit is my screen time. My work keeps me in front of a computer the whole day, and my eyes are starting to complain. The discomfort usually starts on the left side of my head and lingers just long enough to slow me down. I’ve noticed my vision feels a bit blurry when things move quickly, distant objects take a second to snap into focus, and dim lighting makes everything harder than it should be.

I’m not wearing glasses yet because I’ve always believed my eyesight was still okay. But maybe “okay” isn’t good enough when your day revolves around a monitor. I’m beginning to realize that pushing through isn’t the same as taking care of myself.

So I’m making a few changes. I’m stepping away from my screen more often, following a simple habit, every 20 minutes, I look at something far away for about 20 seconds. I’m keeping my workspace brighter, blinking on purpose when I get locked into tasks, and using breaks to rest my eyes instead of scrolling. Most importantly, I’m planning to see an optometrist soon to get a proper check-up. If I need lenses, I’ll wear them, no hesitation. Clarity is better than guesswork.

This is just another reminder that health is part of the job. If I want to show up at my best, I have to treat my body, especially my eyes, with respect.

“Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.” — Jim Rohn

Here’s to choosing small, consistent habits that protect our vision and our focus. Have a great day!
