Trabajar en el campo es una labor que muchos consideran muy ruda, y a pesar de ser uno de los primeros oficios que tuvo el hombre por la necesidad real de producir alimentos para sustentar la existencia, hoy en día no es una profesión muy deseada, pues ahora abundan los oficios con menos esfuerzo físico y también con mejores salarios.
Para mi es una de las profesiones que más disfruto. Me da tanto placer como hacer arte. Trabajar rodeado de naturaleza, a pesar de que mí cuerpo tiene que disponer de sus mayores fuerzas para cumplir con las tareas, es algo que disfruto plenamente.
Mi última experiencia fue el pasado miércoles, cuando tuve la oportunidad de trabajar en la finca de un amigo. Nos habíamos encontrado un par de días antes y coordinamos para que yo empezará a desempeñarme en las labores agrícolas.
Llegué temprano y me asignaron cortar las nuevas ramas de los troncos cortados que habían quedado regados por todo el campo. Tuve que limpiar una zona que debía limpiarse para poder arar y sembrar posteriormente.... Así iba cortando y apilando las ramas en grupos.
A un costado una siembra de maíz, con las plantas de medio tamaño, demostrando que cuando se trabaja bien la naturaleza responde y nos da de sus frutos. Esa increíble vida que se muestra en la belleza de los cultivos es algo que siempre me ha maravillado.
Hacia el otro lado, había mucho terreno aún por limpiar. La naturaleza no descansa en su crecimiento y eso hay que aprender a conducirlo para obtener buenos rendimientos de la tierra. Esa fue la zona que me asignaron limpiar por la tarde. Un trabajo que requirió esfuerzo pero que realicé con mucho placer.
Otro de los placeres fue disfrutar de los mangos en la merienda. El mango es una de las frutas más sabrosas de Cuba, y se da espontáneamente en nuestro campos. En la finca hay varias matas de una variedad de mangos llamados "Filipinos". La verdad, me sorprendió encontrarlos tan ricos y dulces, pues siempre pense que este tipo de mangos no eran tan sabrosos... pero...huummm! ... estaban deliciosos.
Fue un excelente día de trabajo. Llegue a sentir que a veces necesitaba un descanso. No es fácil cuando no haces estas labores todos los días y el cuerpo se lo siente. Pero disfrute mucho hacerlo y también el entorno natural, el aire puro y las frutas. Tengo la idea de conseguir un pedazo de tierra y tener mis propios cultivos. For me it is one of the professions I enjoy the most. It gives me as much pleasure as making art. Working surrounded by nature, even though my body has to use its greatest strength to accomplish the tasks, is something I thoroughly enjoy.
My last experience was last Wednesday, when I had the opportunity to work on a friend's farm. We had met a couple of days before and coordinated for me to start working on the farm.
I arrived early and was assigned to cut new branches from the cut trunks that had been left strewn all over the field. I had to clear an area that needed to be cleared for plowing and planting later..... So I was cutting and stacking the branches in groups.
On one side a corn planting, with half-sized plants, demonstrating that when nature responds and gives us its fruits when we work well. That incredible life that shows in the beauty of the crops is something that has always amazed me.
On the other side, there was still a lot of land to be cleared. Nature does not rest in its growth and you have to learn how to manage it to get good yields from the land. That was the area I was assigned to clear in the afternoon. A job that required effort but that I did with great pleasure.
Another pleasure was to enjoy mangoes as a snack. Mangoes are one of the tastiest fruits in Cuba, and they grow spontaneously in our fields. On the farm there are several bushes of a variety of mangoes called “Filipinos”. To tell the truth, I was surprised to find them so rich and sweet, because I always thought that this kind of mangoes were not so tasty... but... huummm!... they were delicious.
It was an excellent day's work. I felt that sometimes I needed a break. It's not easy when you don't do this work every day and the body feels it. But I really enjoyed doing it and also the natural environment, the fresh air and the fruits. I have the idea of getting a piece of land and having my own crops.
