I recently completed a painting on canvas using acrylic paints, a piece I’ve named “Abudu”, a lithuanian word which would translate to something similar like "Both". From the very beginning, the idea for this work came to me spontaneously—I didn’t overthink it. I simply started painting, letting the process guide me. There’s something magical about letting a piece evolve naturally, without forcing a vision too rigidly.
As I worked, a clearer understanding of the painting began to emerge. The two figures gradually revealed themselves as beings with a quiet, serene presence. At first, they seemed almost abstract, but as the painting developed, I realized they could represent either extraterrestrial beings, like Pleiadians, or perhaps an alternate version of me and my boyfriend existing in another dimension. This duality—between the cosmic and the personal—gives the work a layered meaning that resonates with both imagination and emotion.
Behind the figures, I placed a circular, star-like shape, surrounded by swirling orange flames. This element became the sun of the painting, a radiant source of light that connects the two beings. I wanted it to symbolize warmth, energy, and the shared presence of two souls together, shining as their own sun. The figures themselves feel peaceful, as if they exist in a moment of quiet harmony, illuminated by this inner light.
Initially, my vision for the painting was slightly different. The shapes, proportions, and some details evolved organically as I painted. Each session brought new insights and subtle shifts, and I embraced these changes, realizing that the piece was finding its own voice. The final result is only slightly different from what I imagined at the start, yet it feels more alive, more authentic, and deeply personal.
This painting took several months to complete, as I only worked on it in short sessions every few weeks. This slower, deliberate pace allowed the work to develop naturally and for the ideas to crystallize over time. It gave me space to reflect and refine each element, ensuring that the painting conveyed the feeling I wanted: a blend of cosmic wonder and intimate connection.
The figures themselves are simple yet expressive. Their elongated forms and serene faces evoke calmness and contemplation. I paid attention to small details, like the delicate gold dots near their eyes, which add a subtle sense of magic and otherworldliness. These tiny touches became important, grounding the cosmic elements in a sense of personality and emotion.
“Abudu” is about connection, light, and shared energy, and also about letting creativity flow without overthinking. The painting represents a space where imagination and personal experience intersect, where beings—whether cosmic or human—can exist peacefully, together in their own luminous world.
I’m excited to share not only the finished painting but also the process behind it. Each photograph, each brushstroke, tells part of the story of how “Abudu” came to life. It’s a reminder that art is as much about the journey as it is about the result, and that letting a work evolve naturally can lead to something deeply meaningful and unexpectedly beautiful.
