This past weekend I had the chance to photograph a cultural fair here in Kaunas. It was one of two events I covered in a single day, and I wanted to share a glimpse of this one first. The fair brought together different cultural organizations, each introducing their work, upcoming events for autumn, and inviting people to connect through creativity and community.
The location itself felt special — the event took place right in front of the Kaunas St. Michael the Archangel Church (here commonly known as Soboras). This landmark added a beautiful backdrop to the fair, with the church’s grand architecture contrasting against the colorful stands and activities happening around it.
There were interactive experiences for visitors to enjoy, as well as information about cultural programs and initiatives. Even though the fair wasn’t crowded, it still created a cozy and open atmosphere, where people could stop, talk, and discover something new about local and international cultural life.
I must admit, I photographed this fair only briefly. The day was hot, and I didn’t feel it was the easiest environment for capturing the kind of shots I usually aim for. Sometimes the energy just isn’t right, and on top of that, there weren’t too many people at the fair while I was there. Still, I tried to focus on capturing a few meaningful moments and the overall atmosphere.
Even if the collection isn’t large, I think it’s always worth sharing these glimpses. Events like this remind us that culture is alive, evolving, and always around us — sometimes in the most unexpected corners of the city. Each photograph, even if simple, helps to keep a small piece of that atmosphere alive.
So here are a few images from the cultural fair in Kaunas. They may not show the whole scope of the event, but they reflect what I saw and experienced in that short time. Sometimes even a brief encounter is enough to carry the memory of a day filled with culture, people, and a sense of community.
