Muy buenos días, amigas y amigos. Como siempre ofreciendoles partes de mis trabajos musicales, en transcripciones y métodos. Para este post abordo una tradición hermosa de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela, que celebran en Caicara de Maturín del estado Monagas, el baile del mono que festejan los 28 de diciembre, día de los santos inocentes.
Esta comparsas callejeras consta de tres partes: Matachí, Marisela y Mare mare, donde los visitantes y participantes van por las calles al son de la música con sus instrumentos tradicionales como el Ciriaco (carangano de bambú) que golpean directamente con palos, la mandolina que lleva la melodía y acompañamiento, el cuatro que acompaña en su ritmo y armonía, maracas, tambores, y cachos, algunas agrupaciones llevan sus carrizos (flautas de pan) preservando el legado indígena.
En la fiesta intervienen los personajes característicos: El mono, la Mayordoma, la Negra, los Morochos. El Mono mayor guía una cadena de participantes donde realizan figuras de acuerdo al solista, bailan agachado, en una pata, corren, etc.

For this post, I'm exploring a beautiful tradition from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, celebrated in Caicara de Maturín, Monagas state: the Monkey Dance, which is celebrated on December 28th, the Day of the Holy Innocents.
>This street parade consists of three parts: Matachí, Marisela, and Mare Mare. Visitors and participants walk through the streets to the sound of music on traditional instruments such as the Ciriaco (bamboo carangano), which they strike directly with sticks; the mandolin, which carries the melody and accompaniment; the cuatro, which accompanies the rhythm and harmony; maracas, drums, and cachos. Some groups carry their reeds (pan flutes), preserving the indigenous heritage.
Characteristic characters take part in the festivities: the Monkey, the Mayordoma, the Negra, and the Morochos. The Elder Monkey leads a chain of participants who perform figures according to the soloist: crouching, standing on one leg, running, etc.
