Visit Spain - El Campello Marina

Hi 👋 When I look back at my family trip to Spain, one of the places that comes to my mind is the Marina de El Campello, just a short journey from where we were staying near Alicante. It was not the biggest part of our holiday and it was not even a full day visit, but it left a big impression on us especially on my son, who loved every moment of seeing the boats lined up in the water. Sometimes it is the little stops, the quick visits and the unexpected discoveries that make a trip special.

Quando penso na minha viagem em família a Espanha, um dos locais que me vem à memória é a Marina de El Campello, a uma curta distância de onde estávamos alojados, perto de Alicante. Não foi a parte mais importante das nossas férias, e também não foi uma visita de um dia inteiro, mas deixou-nos uma grande impressão, especialmente no meu filho, que adorou cada momento a ver os barcos alinhados na água. Por vezes, são as pequenas paragens, as visitas rápidas e as descobertas inesperadas que tornam uma viagem especial.  When we arrived in El Campello, the heat of the day greeted us immediately. 34º is no joke, especially when the sun is high and there is little shade. But the charm of the town made up for it. El Campello has that mix of being a fishing village at heart, but also a seaside destination where locals and visitors gather to enjoy the water, the beaches and of course the marina. From the tram stop, it was just a short walk down toward the marina area. As we got closer, we could already see the masts of the boats rising up in the distance, pointing to the sky like a small forest of poles. The sea breeze hit us, bringing some relief from the heat, and we could hear the faint sounds of the water moving against the boats.

Quando chegámos a El Campello, o calor do dia recebeu-nos de imediato. 34° não é brincadeira, especialmente quando o sol está alto e há pouca sombra. Mas o charme da cidade compensa. El Campello tem aquela mistura de ser uma vila piscatória no coração, mas também um destino à beira-mar onde os habitantes locais e os visitantes se juntam para desfrutar da água, das praias e, claro, da marina. A partir do metro, era apenas uma curta caminhada em direção à zona da marina. À medida que nos aproximávamos, já podíamos ver os mastros dos barcos a elevarem-se ao longe, apontando para o céu como uma pequena floresta de postes. A brisa do mar atingia-nos, trazendo algum alívio do calor, e podíamos ouvir o som suave da água a mover-se contra os barcos.    There were so many boats, of all sizes and styles, lined up neatly in rows. Some were small sailing boats, perfect for weekend trips or family outings. Others were larger yachts, shining under the sun, clearly belonging to people who take sailing very seriously. My son eyes lit up the moment he saw the boats. For him, it was like walking into a giant playground, but instead of swings and slides, there were endless boats to look at. He kept pointing at different ones, asking questions about their size, their names and even which ones might be the fastest. It reminded me of how sometimes children find joy in the simplest things, and how those moments stay with us long after the trip is over.

Havia tantos barcos, de todos os tamanhos e estilos, alinhados em filas. Alguns eram pequenos veleiros, perfeitos para viagens de fim de semana ou passeios em família. Outros eram iates maiores, a brilhar sob o sol, claramente pertencentes a pessoas que levam a vela muito a sério. Os olhos do meu filho brilharam no momento em que viu os barcos. Para ele, era como entrar num parque infantil gigante, mas em vez de baloiços e escorregas, havia uma infinidade de barcos para admirar. Estava sempre a apontar para diferentes barcos, fazendo perguntas sobre o tamanho, o nome e até qual seria o mais rápido. Fez-me lembrar como às vezes as crianças encontram alegria nas coisas mais simples e como esses momentos permanecem connosco durante muito tempo depois do fim da viagem.    One of the highlights of being at the marina was the fact that from there, we could also see the Torre de La Illeta. This old watchtower, standing proudly near the water, is a reminder of the history of this coast. Built centuries ago to defend against pirate attacks, it now serves as a historical landmark and a beautiful part of the scenery. Even from a distance, the tower looked impressive against the blue sky. It added a touch of history to our visit, making the marina more than just a modern place for boats.

Um dos pontos altos da marina foi o facto de dali podermos também avistar a Torre de La Illeta. Esta antiga torre de vigia, imponente perto da água, é uma lembrança da história desta costa. Construída há séculos para se defender dos ataques de piratas, serve agora como marco histórico e uma bela parte da paisagem. Mesmo à distância, a torre parecia impressionante contra o céu azul. Ela acrescentou um toque de história à nossa visita, tornando a marina mais do que apenas um local moderno para barcos.    We didn't spend hours at the marina. It was a quick visit, more of a stop to look around and enjoy the atmosphere before heading back. But even in that short time, it gave us something memorable. My son, especially was full of joy. He kept talking about the boats, saying which one he liked best, and even imagining himself sailing one someday. For him, this was not just a walk.

Não passamos horas na marina. Foi uma visita rápida, mais uma paragem para espreitar e apreciar a atmosfera antes de regressar. Mas mesmo neste curto período, proporcionou-nos algo memorável. O meu filho, em particular, estava radiante de alegria. Não parava de falar dos barcos, dizendo qual gostava mais e até se imaginando a velejar num deles algum dia. Para ele, aquilo não era apenas um passeio.  If you are ever staying in the Alicante region and have a bit of extra time, I recommend taking the tram and stopping at El Campello Marina. It doesn't require hours, it doesn’t cost anything to walk around and it gives you a chance to see a beautiful part of the coast, a mix of modern leisure and historical charm.
