Visit Spain - Isleta de los Banyets

Hi 👋 When you think of the Alicante region in Spain, the first images that probably come to mind are busy promenades, long sandy beaches full of umbrellas, and lively seaside cafés. And yes, Alicante does have plenty of those. But during our summer holiday this year, my family and I decided to look for something a little different something quieter, something more personal. That search led us to a small and wonderful corner of the coast called Isleta de los Banyets. It is not as famous as the bigger beaches in the area, but in our opinion, it was one of the most beautiful and relaxing spots we visited in Spain.

Quando pensamos na região de Alicante, em Espanha, as primeiras imagens que provavelmente nos vêm à mente são passeios movimentados, longas praias de areia repletas de guarda-sóis e animados cafés à beira-mar. E sim, Alicante tem muitos lugares deste tipo. Mas durante as nossas férias de verão deste ano, eu e a minha família decidimos procurar algo um pouco diferente, algo mais calmo, algo mais pessoal. Esta busca levou-nos a um pequeno e maravilhoso recanto da costa chamado Isleta de los Banyets. Não é tão famosa como as praias maiores da região, mas, na nossa opinião, foi um dos locais mais bonitos e relaxantes que visitámos em Espanha.  We woke up to the golden light of a bright summer morning. Even before opening the window, I could tell it was going to be a hot day. The air inside the apartment was already warm, and the moment we stepped onto the balcony, the heat wrapped around us like a blanket. It was 33ºC and rising, heading towards 35ºC by midday. The sun was strong, the sky completely clear, not a single cloud to give us shade but there was also a light sea breeze, just enough to keep things comfortable.

Acordámos com a luz dourada de uma manhã brilhante de verão. Ainda antes de abrir a janela, já sabia que ia ser um dia quente. O ar dentro do apartamento já estava quente e, no momento em que saímos para a varanda, o calor envolveu-nos como se fosse um cobertor. Estava a 33°C e a subir, aproximando-se dos 35°C ao meio-dia. O sol estava forte, o céu completamente limpo, sem uma única nuvem para nos dar sombra, mas também se vivia uma ligeira brisa marítima, suficiente para manter o ambiente confortável.     When we stepped off the tram at El Campello, the heat hit us again instantly. The station itself is small, but it's only a short walk to the town's seafront. We took our time, stopping often to sip water and enjoy the view. Our first goal was to see the Torre de La Illeta. This old watchtower is one of the iconic sights in El Campello. It was built centuries ago to keep watch for pirate ships and other threats approaching the coast. Today, it stands as a reminder of the region's history, its stone walls weathered by the salty wind and strong sun. From the base of the tower, we had a wonderful view of the coastline in both directions. The sea seemed to stretch forever, and in the distance, we could spot small fishing boats slowly moving across the water.

Quando descemos do elétrico em El Campello, o calor voltou a atingir-nos instantaneamente. A estação em si é pequena, mas fica a uma curta caminhada do passeio marítimo da cidade. Demorámo-nos um pouco, parando frequentemente para beber água e apreciar a vista. O nosso primeiro objetivo era ver a Torre de La Illeta. Esta antiga torre de vigia é um dos pontos turísticos icónicos de El Campello. Foi construída há séculos para vigiar navios piratas e outras ameaças que se aproximavam da costa. Hoje, ergue-se como um lembrete da história da região, com as suas paredes de pedra desgastadas pelo vento salgado e pelo sol forte. Da base da torre, tínhamos uma vista maravilhosa da costa em ambas as direções. O mar parecia estender-se para sempre e, ao longe, podíamos avistar pequenos barcos de pesca a deslocarem-se lentamente sobre a água. Continuing along the coast, we soon reached the area near Platja dels Banyets de la Reina. From where we stood, we could see people swimming and sunbathing. This beach is famous for its ancient Roman fish farms carved into the rocks, pools that still fill with seawater today. It looked inviting, but we were on a mission. Our destination was further ahead, and we knew from our research that Isleta de los Banyets was something special.

Continuando pela costa, chegamos logo à zona perto da Platja dels Banyets de la Reina. Do local onde estávamos, podíamos ver pessoas a nadar e a apanhar sol. Esta praia é famosa pelas suas antigas quintas de peixes romanas esculpidas nas rochas, piscinas que ainda hoje se enchem de água do mar. Parecia convidativa, mas tínhamos uma missão. O nosso destino estava mais à frente, e sabíamos, pelas nossas pesquisas, que a Isleta de los Banyets era algo de especial.   The path from the station to Isleta de los Banyets is not short. It takes some walking, especially under the summer sun. But as we got closer, the scenery became more beautiful. The sea was now just beside us, the waves gently breaking against the rocks. The smell of salt in the air grew stronger, mixing with the faint scent of dry grass and wildflowers from the land.

O caminho da estação até à Isleta de los Banyets não é curto. É preciso caminhar um pouco, principalmente sob o sol de verão. Mas, à medida que nos aproximávamos, a paisagem tornava-se mais bonita. O mar estava agora mesmo ao nosso lado, as ondas quebrando suavemente contra as rochas. O cheiro a sal no ar tornava-se mais forte, misturando-se com o leve aroma de erva seca e flores silvestres da terra.     Isleta de los Banyets is small, calm and absolutely stunning. That morning, it felt like a secret place that only a few people knew about. There were maybe three or four others there, scattered across the beach, reading or simply lying back and enjoying the sun. The sand was soft under our feet, with small patches of pebbles near the waterline. But what immediately caught our attention was the color of the water a clear, light blue that looked almost unreal. In some places, where the sunlight hit just right, it turned a brighter turquoise. We could see the sea floor clearly even several meters from the shore. Tiny fish darted between rocks and the waves rolled in slowly, making just enough sound to remind us of where we were.

A Isleta de los Banyets é pequena, tranquila e absolutamente deslumbrante. Naquela manhã, parecia um lugar secreto que poucas pessoas conheciam. Havia talvez três ou quatro pessoas ali, espalhadas pela praia, a ler ou simplesmente a relaxar e a aproveitar o sol. A areia era macia debaixo dos nossos pés, com pequenas manchas de seixos perto da linha de água. Mas o que nos chamou logo a atenção foi a cor da água um azul claro e límpido que parecia quase irreal. Em alguns locais, onde a luz do sol batia perfeitamente, transformava-se num turquesa mais brilhante. Conseguíamos ver o fundo do mar com nitidez, mesmo a vários metros da costa. Peixinhos nadavam entre as rochas e as ondas rolavam lentamente, fazendo barulho suficiente para nos lembrar onde estávamos.     We set up our towels in a quiet corner, away from the few other visitors. My son wasted no time and went straight into the water, laughing as the gentle waves splashed around him. My wife and I followed and instantly, the heat of the day seemed to disappear. The water was good and it was easy to float or swim without fighting against the current. We spent a long time just playing in the shallows, watching small shells and bits of seaweed drift past.

Estendemos as nossas toalhas num canto tranquilo, longe dos poucos visitantes. O meu filho não perdeu tempo e foi diretamente para a água, rindo enquanto as ondas suaves batiam à sua volta. Eu e a minha mulher fomos atrás, e instantaneamente o calor do dia pareceu desaparecer. A água estava boa e era fácil boiar ou nadar sem lutar contra a corrente. Passámos um bom bocado apenas a brincar na parte rasa, observando pequenas conchas e pedaços de algas a flutuar.     From Isleta de los Banyets, the view of the open sea is breathtaking. With no large buildings in sight, the horizon feels endless. The changing shades of blue from deep navy far out to pale aqua near the shore were hypnotising. There was no loud music, no sellers walking along the sand, no noise except nature’s own soundtrack.

A partir da Isleta de los Banyets, a vista para o mar aberto é de cortar a respiração. Sem grandes edifícios à vista, o horizonte parece infinito. Os tons de azul, que variavam do azul-marinho profundo ao azul-claro perto da costa, eram hipnotizantes. Não havia música alta, nem vendedores a passear pela areia, nem barulho, exceto a banda sonora da natureza. In the late afternoon, the sun began to soften, casting a golden light over the water. The sea sparkled even more under this warm glow. As we packed up our things and started walking back, I kept looking over my shoulder for one last view.

Ao final da tarde, o sol começou a pôr-se, lançando uma luz dourada sobre a água. O mar cintilava ainda mais sob este brilho quente. Enquanto arrumávamos as nossas coisas e começávamos a caminhar de volta, eu olhava por cima do ombro para uma última olhadela.   For anyone visiting Alicante, Isleta de los Banyets might not appear on the top lists of must-see beaches. But thats exactly why you should go. Its a place where you can slow down, enjoy nature and feel like you have found something just for yourself.
