Hunting Adventures in Askiy Ridge Preserve

The new DLC reserve in theHunter: Call of the Wild is making me want to dive back into the game and explore more. I still haven’t hunted much in this reserve. It’s called Askiy Ridge Hunting Preserve, based on Alberta, Canada. This is such a beautiful snow map with a lot of new animal species, especially birds. I was well equipped with a 7mm long-range rifle, a powerful handgun, a modern bow, and a shotgun to take down those birds if I found any. I’ve seen many just randomly flying around… just need to find their resting grounds.  --- The mountain range here looks really good. Once, I had the pleasure of climbing one of the local hills just to enjoy the view. It was simply majestic.  --- Anyway, my first kill of the day was a Bighorn Sheep. It came surprisingly close to my hiding spot. The wind direction wasn’t bad, and I made sure Sheru wasn’t too close to me. Still, I didn’t expect it to stroll right towards me.  --- I was very close to the latest outpost I unlocked — a lodge next to a big lake with a forest on one side.  --- I saw a small group of Moose drinking by a stream. Not many, maybe 3 or 4 and by the time I noticed them, the two males were already heading back into the forest. The males usually have better senses than the females, and are harder to hunt. But one female hadn't sensed me yet.  --- One lung shot was enough to bring her down easily. It was a double lung shot, so she didn’t last long. But look at that view. Isn’t it beautiful? I ran in the direction the others went. Would’ve been nice to get the male — he had a great set of antlers and looked like a sure gold trophy.  --- I tracked them into the dense forest. They sensed me before I even saw them. Took a while, but when I finally caught a glimpse, they were already running. One of them got stuck between some tree trunks. Bad luck for it. This was probably the easiest shot of my life xD.  --- I really like the snowy terrain — you can track animals so much more easily here. I’m not using any HUD elements, so it usually takes me longer, but this soft snow helps. The forest got denser and darker. There were heavy clouds in the sky. That’s when I suddenly saw a Black Bear right in front of me. How did I get that close? It stood up, then came down — ready to run — but that’s when I took the shot. I was so close I had to take the scope off my rifle.  --- I missed the heart but punctured the lung. It didn’t take long to drop. It was a small female and only gave me a bronze trophy — not great, but not bad either. I went back to the open — that forest was not easy to hunt in.  --- I spotted a Woodland Caribou from a distance — one of the new species introduced in this reserve. I had to get it. Weirdly, it was alone. I thought they usually moved in groups. But anyway, I figured this female would do fine.  --- It was much smaller than the Caribou found in the Alaskan map. Maybe this one was a juvenile. Either way, it gave me a bronze trophy. I was just wandering when I heard a bird fly past me. I quickly switched to my shotgun — had birdshot shells loaded just for this kind of opportunity. The scope helped me line it up.  --- Shooting a flying target is always tough. I wasn’t too confident, but luckily this one wasn’t flying too high. It was my first Dusky Grouse, a female. I bet the males are more colourful — just guessing here. Still, I taxidermied it since it was my first.  --- That’s it for this session. I’ll leave you with a final landscape shot from this beautiful reserve. I’m thinking of buying the DLC for myself, but funds are a bit tight right now. Hopefully, it goes on a good discount soon.
