Sometimes, having expectations could hinder you from doing other things, and I will tell you why I say so.
For the past three days I've been trying to register for my NYSC (details in my previous blog and luckily for me yesterday, I was able to do the capturing (taking of your passport picture) and thumbprint, but then everything started going sideways when we got to the next stage, which was to upload your details on the website. The website started glitching, and we couldn't do anything on it again.
Now the reason I say that expectations can be a bad thing sometimes is because when I was done with the thumb printing and capturing (this was about 9am that morning; I had gone there by 6am), I easily could have gone home after waiting for a few hours, especially seeing how I don't live far away.
But then, after the first person got done uploading their details and it went successfully, even though it took a few hours, I started being hopeful, especially seeing how I was the next in line to get mine uploaded.
My expectations were high, so I sat down at that shop from 9am to 7pm last night, too scared to leave to even get something to eat because I was afraid of leaving for just a second, only for the website to start working again. I didn't want to take any chances, so I stayed there and waited.
At the end of the day, we ended up not getting it done because the website never came back online. As a matter of fact, it's 5pm the next day, and I still haven't gotten my documents uploaded because the website still hasn't come online.
But you see, if I didn't have any expectations of getting registered yesterday, if I wasn't hopeful just because I was the next in line, I probably would have left that place a lot earlier because I knew that even if the website worked, it wouldn't have gotten to my turn anyway, and I would have used my time to do other things that I was supposed to do.
But instead, I sat down there all day, no food, no water. Just a sore buttocks from having to sit all day and nothing else and almost nothing else to show for it.
Unfortunately, I will have to repeat this same process tomorrow while hoping for a better result. Wish me luck.
