People Play Too Much

Sometimes, the way certain people react to certain things that have to do with their health makes me wonder if I take things too seriously or if they just don't care.

I probably might not be the healthiest person out there, but if there's one thing I'm certain of, it is that the moment my body starts showing any symptoms or gives me any sign that something might be slightly wrong with me, I immediately begin to look for ways to help solve that problem. Most times I first go on Google to browse that symptom, even though I know that Google is the last place you might want to go for things like that because almost all symptoms on Google probably mean you're about to die.

But what I'm saying is that most times, I get so restless that if I don't immediately have access to a medical professional or someone who at least knows a little more than me in that situation, I start to look for ways (which automatically means running to Google) that I could at least have an idea to know what's wrong with me and how long I'm going to live.

Unfortunately, I recently realized that not everyone feels this same way. Most people prefer not to know (even when they see the symptoms) because they're afraid of what they might find out when they start asking questions. So rather than discover whatever that thing is from an early stage, they would rather ignore it (probably if the symptoms only showed once) and just keep on living their life until eventually it gets to a stage where they can no longer ignore it and have to face it because now it's affecting their day-to-day routine.

I have this friend who had casually mentioned that he had coughed out blood one morning. He said it so nonchalantly that you would think it was something normal (it probably is for him), and I remember looking at him like, “Is he serious right now?”

He ended up not doing anything about it, and fast forward to months later, he's currently seriously sick. We don't know exactly what's wrong with him, but for some reason I just can't take my mind off what he had told us months ago.

It is situations like this that sometimes cause people to collapse on the road and die, not because they had no idea that something was wrong with them, but because they had chosen to ignore it instead of investigating further to know if it's something that requires immediate medical assistance.
