Back in the day, education wasn't something that was taken as seriously as it was later in the years. I remember that most people from my tribe prioritised learning trades than going to school because that was a tested and trusted way of becoming someone wealthy in the future.
So what they would do is give their kid away to someone who already has a business for himself and is probably considered to be doing well for themselves. That person will then take the kid over to his home, where they would live for the next five to ten years, probably even more. And then at the end of their service, they will be allowed to leave their bosses shop and home, and to go begin their own business with the settlement money given to them by their boss for their services rendered throughout the entire ten years.
The money given to these people, usually isn't enough when compared to the services that those kids had rendered for all those years, but that is what happens and back in the day most people preferred doing that, than to go spend five years in school, only to find yourself in some office, collecting salaries that isn't even enough to take care of yourself, not to talk of your family back home...or at least, that was what some of them thought of it.
While as for the ladies, education just never seemed like something that important because the mentality was that most women would eventually end up in the kitchen, so while waste all of that money on schooling when it probably wouldn't yield much result.
So what happened was that most ladies stopped their education at primary school, or at best, secondary school, because that was enough for them to learn to read and write.
Luckily for all of us though, that slowly began to change, and suddenly people were starting to see the importance in education again, but even that didn't last long.
You see, in as much as there are a lot of people in school these days, there are only a handful of them that actually take it serious, only a handful of them know what they're actually doing there while the rest depend fully on malpractice and bribing their way through to make it.
The government tried putting exams in place that ensures that only those who read and are smart enough can get into the university, but unfortunately, the people placed in charge of those exams have instead turned the whole thing into a money making machine, and now they focus more on collecting bribes rather than doing the job that they're being paid for by the government.
So while it might look like we prioritise education in the country right now on the outside, you get to find out how rotten the system is when you get on the inside.
The only good thing is that it all depends on you, if you put your mind to it, then you will end up actually learning something, both male and female because there is no limit to what you can achieve and how far you can go when it comes to schooling here. You just have to want it and be determined enough to actually go for it.
