Too much Risk

I've always admired people who have the sharpest brains; I mean brains that allow them to memorize stuff just by glancing at it for the first time. This is why one of my all-time favorite series is Suits, and if you've seen it, then you know it's because of the lead character, Mike Ross, who in the series has a superb photographic memory that helped him a lot as a lawyer.

Personally, I feel knowing someone with a photographic memory is the closest I could ever be to a real-life superhero because that to me is a superpower on its own. This is why I always admire my friend, the one I had talked about in a previous post.

Now his memory might not be as powerful as that of Mike Ross from the Suits series, but it's surely above average, and I always make sure to test it any chance I get.

The other day, we both were about to go to the market to buy some foodstuff (a lady friend had written a list of things I needed to buy on WhatsApp, and I had asked my friend to tag along). Now, just for the fun of it, I had shown him the list and asked him to memorize it, even though I was still going to go to the market with my phone that has that same list on it.

As usual, he took one glance at the whole thing and handed me the phone back, then we both moved out. We got to the market, and I made sure not to say a word. I watched him as he bought every single thing on that list, without asking for help once, while I stood there, occasionally glancing at the list to make sure he wasn't making any mistakes.

What blew my mind wasn't just the fact that he remembered the ingredients, but also because he remembered the prices of each ingredient listed on the list. So he knew how much onion I needed to buy and how many, etc.

But you see, while it feels cool watching him display his superpower like it's nothing, the last thing I will ever do is let anyone poke around my brain just so that they could try to improve my memory by placing a chip in my brain.

You see, I'm an African man, and what that means is that we get wild with our imaginations, and trust me when I say that I can already see something wrong happening during the operation. Now don't get me wrong, I would love the idea of my memories getting improved. I mean, if there was a way of doing it without having to split open my head first, then maybe I will give it a thought.

But if, for any reason, the process involves me going under the knife for any reason, then it's a no-no for me, especially when I'm not in a life-threatening situation that mandates me going under that knife.
