Recently I went Lonavala(Maharashtra). Its a hill station surrounded by green lanscapes. It is also known as a City of Caves. Actually the best time to visit Lonavala /Pune is during monsoon season , June to September. We can see the beauty of green landscapes, the view or scenic valleys and viewpoints ,will be more clearer and the waterfalls with lots of waters. But in my family marriage was there in Mumbai, so I got this time to visit mumbai. Lonavala is approximately 2 hours from mumbai via car. The route is beautiful via train or car. One can enjoy the scenic route.
I got one day for Lonavala to visit the main attractions there. Like *Bhaja caves, Karla caves, Ekvira temple, Lohagad fort, Lonavala lake etc.
The main attractions in Lonavala-
1.Karla caves-
It is just 10km away from Lonavala. It is an ancient Buddhists caves built centuries ago. It is known as the largest and complete Chaitya(temple) caves in India. As we enter the cave we can see a lots of cravings on the wall. It is one if the famous buddhist caves. For reaching Karla caves we have to walk up nearly 250 to 300 steps. Near the caves Ekvira Temple is there.
Near the Karla caves Ekvira Devi Temple is there. It is famous and most visited temple in Lonavala. It is said to be one of the most oldest and historiacal temple. It is also believed that the goddess has magical powers and thats why this place is crowded all the time.
In the pics below the crowd is for Ekvira temple. This temple is very crowded all the time. People has lots of belief in the goddess so there, lot of local peoples visit this temple and worship them.
I have taken tje video of the temple, I couldnot upload the video so I am posting a screenshot here of the temple Name.
Bhaja caves
This cave is 400 feet above the village name Bhaja. This caves is a group of 22 rock caves which was built in 2nd century BC. It is very peaceful and Bhuddhist caves. We can say it is 2000 years old cave. We can rememberize the ancient times. It is an oldest caves in western India. There are approximately 250 stairs to reach at Bhaja caves.
There are small rooms like this.
Then after that we went for
Lohagad Fort.
It is one of the many hill forts in Maharasthra. India where we have to climb the stairs to reach to the top. This fort has a great history, but what we know is that Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was forced to surrender it and then recaptured it.
We have not counted the exact stairs but it was more than 300 steps which we had to climb. There are many places to visit in the fort itself and thus we have to go through 4 entrances, i.e. Ganesh Gate, Narayan Gate, Hanuman Gate, last one is Maha Gate.
Though we have gone in November, it is advisable to go in monsoon because the view will become quite astonishing and there will be greenery everywhere. At the top you will see a Darga, Shiva Temple, and some pond.
