The day Chukwudi was born, he cried so loud fighting the air with his hands and legs as if he does want to be born in Nigeria, that the towel used to cover him slipped off from the hands of the nurse, “Chei! this one go be troublemaker oo" she said shaking her head.

However , the nurse was right because at age three, Chukwudi had already broken two precious glass cups belonging to his father, scattered clay cooking pots belonging to his mother and almost burnt the compound with fire while playing a game of firewood cooking with real kerosene.
However, Mama Chukwudi never gave up on him, she would always say that "My boy will be a gentleman, I am not even concerned with the level of his wahala at this time but I know I can try my possible best to raise him with manners”. So she trained him to greet every elder he comes across, how to say thank you and please, and how to walk like a proper man but the problem was that Chukwudi's in-built nature was not willing to accept all the trainings.
One Sunday, he followed Mama to church neatly dressed in starched native wear. After Sunday school, the Pastor asked the whole congregation "Who can recite the memory verse for last week?" and before Mama could ask him to speak, Chukwudi had leaped up screaming the verse at the top of his voice, then after shouting the verse, he concluded with "Anybody who doesn't know it is a goat".The whole congregation gasped and Mama nearly fainted, she twisted his ear while he laughed saying "Mama I was only telling the truth".
However Mama never gave up on him, she would take time to teach him on the art of gentleness, how to walk gently, how to talk amiably like an English gentleman. Sometimes, she would force him to practice greetings like saying good afternoon sir. However, one afternoon when the landlord came, Chukwudi opened the door and said "Good afternoon sir, My Mama say you like asking for money for rent too much", Mama felt like the ground should just swallow her up but the Landlord just left without saying a word.
The point of turning was when they relocated to Lagos and Mama was invited to a wedding. That day, Mama dressed him up in good lace and spoke to him in motherly love saying "Chukwudi please do not disgrace me, behave like a human being, sit quietly and eat your rice, please I don't want drama” he nodded with a big smile on his face. They went to the wedding and at first things went well, he ate with other children and he was as silent as he could. Mama was swelling with pride where she was thinking that "At last, my nurture has won, I have trained him well".
However, it got to a time in the event when the DJ invited children for a dancing competition and Chukwudi was on stage before Mama could open her eyes. He was so wild in his dancing that his cap flew into the handbag of the bride's mother and he completed his dance by trying to do a backflip which landed him rolling in the drums on the side of the stage, this resulted in an explosion of laughter in the hall. Mama buried her head in her wrapper while people applauded while throwing money at Chukwudi. Someone shouted "See natural talent, he will be a star!". Mama couldn't say anything but just stared at him on their way home in the bus. When they got home, she told him "Chukwudi you have brought me disgrace" but he just smiled and said "God has sent me to entertain Mama but you tried to make me soft" she felt very angry.

Since then, she had stopped making attempts to make him a gentleman and admitted him to a dance school. Fortunately, Chukwudi later became a well known comedian and dancer in Lagos and whenever he brought money home, Mama would smile saying that at least his trouble is paying house rent. Chukwudi's nature later brought a good course to him, however he was always grateful to his Mama for nurturing him well.
