MONEY OR HUMANITY?

Good day everyone, welcome to a blessed week. Nowadays, when you tell a person that you want to start a business, they will immediately reply you by asking how much you are going to make per month. No one would like to ask you if you are doing it because of love or passion or even if you tell them about your love or passion for it, they will look at you like you have lost your senses, worse case is when you tell them you want to do it just because you like helping people. As a matter of fact these days, when you tell your friends that you are working just to be passionate they will start to plan a deliverance session for you immediately because it is obvious that village people must be involved. We are now in the world of business minded people, it is no longer a question of doing good or making a difference but it is now about earning money, even those who were once in careers that aree associated with caring have entered the race, which is the funny aspect. ![handshake-3100563_1280.jpg](https://images.hive.blog/DQmZ6i3NibNpyCu1C3eDLeRJ2a5dj4sWNgkZzsvzGhydGTs/handshake-3100563_1280.jpg) [Image Source](https://pixabay.com/photos/handshake-agreement-trade-business-3100563/) Hospitals, schools, churches and even roadside mechanics everybody is hustling. Some time ago, doctors used to be heroes, they would then spend the whole night rescuing a patient without considering the payment but now, even when you are depositing something like your phone or a wristwatch because you don't have money, they may tell you the doctor is on break. However, you will be surprised to know that the doctor's break will be over when you send the money in full. Teachers who used to take pride in their vocation, they are low paid but they were respected. Presently, there are owners of private schools who behave like the CEOs of oil companies, they will bill parents half a million a term and still request parents to bring building donations, you will think that they are building the Great Wall of China. PTA meetings too have become business conferences, everyone is discussing branding, investment and expansion, no one talks of real learning. When you ask a young person now what he or she wants to be and they will tell you it is to be a content creator, influencer or tech bro. No one loves to become a teacher or nurse or social worker anymore because those careers are now termed as suffering and smiling. Although , I can't blame them because the economy does not even favour the situation, when a bag of rice is twice as expensive as weekly wages. People are fed up, we just want to do what gives us the best remuneration. When you open a tailoring shop, people will expect you to begin sewing aso ebi considering business strategy in mind. You have to have a five years expansion plan when you start a bakery, no one would wish to simply bake bread because it is a nice thing to do. ![money-2696228_1280.jpg](https://images.hive.blog/DQmPfms8RJggsKRBPz5iGtGfxUrvtbby1MkC6DCfRex7avF/money-2696228_1280.jpg) [Image Source](https://pixabay.com/photos/money-profit-finance-business-2696228/) Still, there is a chance for balance because without passion, quality is lost as well. A physician that is purely thinking about profitability may begin to prescribe tests that are not necessary so that he can bill more. A teacher who is interested in school fees may cease to be interested in what the students learn even pastors who pursue donations and not souls would find themselves talking instead of preaching like motivational speakers. We should keep in mind that passion and profitwalk hand in hand. Every business person should know that it is real service which gives success in the long run. People will pay you what you do well and love doing not because you compelled them to do it but because they appreciate your work. Imagine it is Nigerian jollof rice, people will pay you again and again to make it as long as you cook it with love and the right ingredients. However, when money is all you need, you will begin to cut corners with half cooked rice, no seasoning and perhaps a single miserable piece of meat, unfortunately your customers will run. Excellence is achieved by passion and profit is achieved by passion. We have to change our mind to find our way back, it is time to teach our children that profit is good but fulfillment is important as well. We should not only reward wealth but passion also. Every country celebrates the richest not the most impactful. Whenever a teacher receives an award, people applaud. However, when a young man is purchasing a new Benz, everybody shouts "God, when?". We all need to look into the mirror. Whether you are a business owner, a student or a civil servant, always remind yourself of the passion you had that made you choose the career path. We should remember the times when a nurse smiled because she really cared about her patients. When an educator was proud when his pupil had achieved. When a trader gave you little “jara” not because she was obliged to but because she wanted you to smile. Money is sweet but happiness is longer. We must make effort to be smart and sincere to make money but not at the cost of our humanity. Thank you so much for staying this far, hope you had a good read with me, see you again next time 😁.
