Being a teacher is not an easy job especially when this pandemic started last 2020. I was already about to set a new life abroad as a Montessori Teacher in Xiamen, China effective on February 10th, 2020 but then our President decided to stop all the flights going abroad.
I was sad and I don’t know what to do because I spent a lot of my time, effort, and money just to get this dream job. I still continue to become positive and hopeful that everything happens for a reason and maybe it was a way that I should be safer in my country during this situation.
Before this dream job, I already had teaching experience as an online English Teacher in a Japanese company. So, I decided to move on, and apply for any home-based teaching job. Luckily, I was hired by a Japanese ESL company and it has the same approach as my previous job.
I have never thought of working at home and becoming a freelancer but this was a life-changing and the most exciting job I have ever had since I am the boss on my own and I can open classes any time I want.
I was able to build my own setup as months goes by and I am so happy because I have never done this when I was working in an office-based school.
I was very motivated to work and open many classes at that time that I only slept for two hours and I didn't have a rest day because it was difficult to go out and my mind was like “I rather earn on my rest day than spend much money for anything” but I was burned out and didn’t open classes because I feel like I am doing the same thing and there is no growth.
"We all feel tired sometimes and it’s okay."
Then last May 2021, I saw a job post on Facebook which is hiring expatriate teachers with the salary that I am always looking forward to without going abroad and I grab the chance and send my resume directly since they will only accept 10 Filipino Teachers.
I received an email for an interview but the interview turns into a contract signing. I was very overwhelmed and kept thanking the agent who hired me and trust my skills as a Teacher.
I am happy and proud to share this with all of you because I will finish my contract this MAY and I got another contract for the school year 2022-2023. I also got the benefits of a teacher with pay during Summer Vacation and the best insurance.
This was the best thing that happen to me during the pandemic even though I lost my dream job in Xiamen, China but I was able to get the same job while teaching at home with my family and loved ones.
This is me now, happy, contented, and very thankful. ❤️
Stay tuned for my next Teacher Talk. 😊
