While growing up my only dream was to finish school and get a good job that pays well. That was my dream but Omo everything changed. After my secondary school I decided to do some jobs that can pay my bills. During that time my mindset about making a living changed,I started to dream bigger because I liked to become my own boss .
If I am to pick the easier one is to make a living but I pick the hardest one, following my passion, don't get me wrong it is not like making a living is not hard but believe me when I say following your passion is the hardest. I will tell you why I said following your passion is the hardest
Sometimes last month I was with my course under a shade in my school that where everyone sit to pass time and this topic was brought up making a living or following your passion three others were up for making a living me and one other person where up for follow our passion
We argued it for almost half an hour,one guys said so if I get a job that pays two million naira I will leave it to follow my passion I said yes,they laugh that am not okay, that my Mom will disown me,I told them i didn't matter as long as am sure of what I want am sure she will be proud of me someday they all laugh
This man was sitting beside us,we actually didn't notice him, until he said can I say something? We all turn around and greeted him and ask him to please speak
He said following our passion is the right choice,he was a manager at a bakery in kaduna state earning well living a big boy life but deep down it was not enough,he decided to quit and learn photography his Mom was so angry with him and blaming village people for going after her son
He didn't care his uncles will always tease him and call him mai hoto meaning photographer I didn't like it but he didn't change his mind, the worst part was the girl he loved she also ended things with him because he wanted to follow his passion
According to him the first shop he went to learn photography from was opposite his ex girlfriend house,every evening a car will always come to pick her, the pain was much he decided to relocate to Abuja where his parents live, getting home is was worse because of his parents constantly reminding him that he made a mistake leaving his well paying job
Before achieving goals his work in three different photographers shop, one had to make him fetch water for his wife everyday before going to the shop and he was 27 years old at that time
The second one taught him how to snap passport only, Lol the last one was where he learnt the job with so many challenges too,to cut the long story short he now has a studio, a house,two cars and doing well
His family now call him mai hoto with respect, so he actually advises us to follow our passion. That energy we put in other people's work puts it in achieving your dreams,so now do you get why I said following your passion is the hardest?
