Alright, Marvel and superhero fans, and all around nerds, don't laugh at me. Okay, well stop laughing at me. No, I am not looking into a sour smelling wind, but doing my best to look fierce. I did not get a chance to catch Marvel's Thunderbolts when it first came out in the theaters. I live in a very small town, actually a village, so no theater; and it is a good drive to the nearest small town that does have one. Movies usually only play there a few weeks before they get shuffled out for a new release. I have begun to make more of a point of driving in and catching the movies I want to see; but for whatever reason, I missed Thunderbolts. When Disney gave us a Thunderbolt's streaming release date, I became unusually excited, decided I would make it a big deal, and work out a Yelena Belova cosplay. As you can see, I have long dark blondish, reddish hair, and so a wig was required, courtesy of my mother. Minime, who is now very much taller than me, donated his Pull-it flap-jacket, which I painted green and to good effect. I think. Then it was a whole lot of adventures in black electrical tape to make a knife and gun legs holsters. I have since invested in a costume hip holster for future cosplay efforts; although the tape worked just fine for the knife. I had a pair of gloves but neglected to put them on for the photo. Bummer. After I had put myself altogether, I went over to my sister's house, and my nieces and nephew failed to recognize me and were suitably intimidated; so, I guess even without the gloves, the costume was a success. I loved Thunderbolts by the way. The movie is getting a lot of flack from the Marvel Bros. It did not make quite the cheddah at the theaters that Superman made, is headed by woman, and has new characters. Stranger Danger I guess. But from where I was sitting, the movie was extremely well acted. Florence Pugh is beyond compelling. She transforms herself and is emotional engaging. She's awesome. Julie Louie-Dreyfus portrays a funny, but truly dislikable villain. The script was solid, funny, and the story unique. There was no shortage of exciting action scenes and explosions, but Thunderbolts isn't the usual, but exciting good versus evil superhero flick. Each motley character must wrestle with their own psychological arch and find family and belonging in unexpected places and with unexpected people. Our heroes eventually get touted as the New Avengers, but a broke down, less super set. No invincibles among them. I am really look forward to seeing how the Avengerz ... they are forced to change their name ... get along in the Marvel Universe. Really looking forwards to Marvel, Doomsday for this. Yelena Belova has become one of my favorite Marvel characters.
