Recently, during one of my frequent visits to the National Art Gallery in Caracas, I was able to see a very interesting exhibition that presents a globalized concept that confronts us with adverse conditions, where the paradox of seeking unity amidst divisions immerses us in fractured universes where ruptures make connection a utopia. These challenging realities lead artist Ramón Aular to explore diversity, researching and reflecting on the values, attitudes, and practices that allow us to feel equal despite being different.
Hace poco tiempo realizando una de mis visitas frecuentes a la Galería de Arte Nacional en la ciudad de Caracas, pude conocer una exposición muy interesante que plantea un concepto globalizado que nos enfrenta a condiciones adversas, donde la paradoja de buscar la unidad en medio de divisiones nos sumerge en universos fracturados donde las rupturas hacen de la conexión una utopía. Estas realidades desafiantes llevan al artista Ramón Aular a explorar la diversidad, investigar y reflexionar sobre los valores, actitudes y prácticas que nos permiten sentirnos iguales a pesar de ser diferentes.

This is how the need to create and the philosophical possibilities of art gave rise to the project "Connecting Continents," the name of this art exhibition, where the actions are directed toward the visual exercise of uniting cultures through the events of art.
Es así como la necesidad de crear y las posibilidades filosóficas del arte dan inicio al proyecto "Conectando continentes" nombre con el que se titula esta muestra artística, donde las acciones se dirigen al ejercicio visual de unir culturas mediante los sucesos del arte.
The main work of this project was created in 2014 by Ramón Aular, a canvas in which the artist depicts the organic beauty of the Cattleya mossiae orchid, a symbol of Venezuelan identity as our national flower. The idea of connecting diverse and distant communities through artistic language is a fundamental driving force behind this project, which spans more than 10 years of experience.
De la mano de Ramón Aular en el año 2014 nace la obra principal de este proyecto, un lienzo en el cual el artista representa la belleza orgánica de la orquídea Cattleya mossiae, símbolo de identidad de Venezuela por ser nuestra flor nacional. La idea de vincular comunidades diversas y distantes mediante el lenguaje artístico es motor fundamental para consolidar este proyecto que alcanza más de 10 años de experiencias.
This orchid-bearing canvas has traveled to more than 30 countries, flourishing in the appropriations and meanings that each culture has made of it, achieving a physical and emotional connection with diverse and geographically isolated peoples. Through the presence of art, they have become one with the work, becoming connected and captured by the photographic gaze that has documented the project's journey in each location visited.
Este lienzo portador de la orquídea ha recorrido por más de 30 países, para florecer en las apropiaciones y significados que cada cultura ha hecho de él, mediante el cual se ha logrado la conexión física y emocional con pueblos diversos y apartados geográficamente, quienes ante la presencia del arte se han hecho uno con la obra quedando vinculados y retratados por la mirada fotográfica que ha documentado el viaje del proyecto en cada localidad visitada.

The exhibition features a wide variety of large-scale pieces, apart from the project's main focus, made using a weaving technique that represents the ancestry of humanity, offering a masterclass in the visual language developed by the artist over 10 years of experience. I found it very interesting that most of the pieces are two-dimensional, created with threads, but visually, they create an optical illusion of three-dimensionality. La exposición cuenta con una gran variedad de piezas en grandes dimensiones, aparte de la protagonista principal del proyecto, realizadas en una técnica de tejido representando la ancestralidad de la humanidad, dando una clase magistral del lenguaje visual desarrollado por el artista a lo largo de estos 10 años de experiencias; me pareció algo muy interesante que la mayoría de las piezas son bidimensionales creadas con hilos, pero visualmente dejan una ilusión óptica de tridimensionalidad, sin duda es una muestra muy fascinante de apreciar.
