When we stopped in Trier we knew little of what was there or its history. It was only known to us because a close friends Grandparents are from there and she mentioned that how close we were.

As it was only an hours drive away we decided to stop off there before moving further south for the day.

As we started to walk into the City were were chatting about what to see via text and as she mentioned the old Roman Gates of the city aka The Porta Nigra we looked up and there they were waiting for us perfect timing.

Such an impressive peice of Roman history we don't really see anything Roman this big in the UK unless someone can correct me.

From the Roman Gates we walked into the main square which was so pretty, full of colourful houses with a wealth of different shops.

As we were walking I commented on thinking that if the city was the Oldest I was expecting to see much more older buildings and that’s when the penny dropped.

When we were back in Larry that evening I started to research about Trier City and discovered as I had suspected that it had been heavily bombed by the British with some help from the US in world war 2. The majority of the people had left by then but no doubt some remained =(

In total Trier was almost completely flattened it had one of the largest bombing in Germany with pretty much the older building remaining was the Porta Nigra - The Roman Gates.

The war caused a lot of history to be lost and in Trier it was said to have had Medieval and Viking history also.

Trier was the first place I have been where I have become aware that it was Britain that flattened this place albeit in the name of stopping Hitler it was still a sobering thought. I had always thought of the effects of both sides of the War but this hit different being here. I can say I was glad to have had the experience, but it made me question every place we went to in Germany and view it with different eyes.

Was I walked around Trier I was pleased to see such positive stickers and graffiti, anti fascism and supporting people and community 💜

Lino met a super cute Australian Shepherd Puppy and his Owner who was super lovely and we chatted about our Dogs before going separate ways. Needless to say he's going to grow into a gorgeous dog!

Trier was only a quick strop destination and learnt so much about the place in a few hours! We also found a GeoCache here which was a nice addition to our time there.

My only regret was not treating myself to an unhealthy snack there!
