MORE HOLIDAYS: SOUNDS INTERESTING BUT IT’S A NO NO…

Holidays are big part of our life as humans, no doubt. They are days we get to unwind and enjoy ourselves, regardless of what we all might be facing in our respective lives. I mean, it doesn’t have to always be the suit, suitcase, tie and shoes kind of lifestyle every single day, we deserve a break, a break from all these 9-5 jobs or schools. What I’m saying right now is that you and i deserve some days off, and the only off days we’ve got are the holidays in the calendar, not even weekends, and that because some of us even get to work on weekends, which sometimes is a compelled decision, and is quite unfair to me...

To some people who their life mostly revolves around their 9-5 job, jam packed schedules, marathon classes and so on, holidays are more special to them than any other thing, which is why most of them, including myself look forward to it all the time. This is because that’s the only time we’ve got to ourselves, the days where we don’t have to follow the rules of the norms and we get to do that which we love and enjoy so much, be it sleeping, hiking, movie dates, chilling or just anything that brings us endless peace and satisfaction…

As for me, I don’t joke with my holidays. You should know of the popular saying; GIVE WHAT BELONGS TO CAESER TO CAESER. Oh yeah, that’s me right there, just give me my holidays when we have them, and we’re cool. As a student, I can count the number of times I’ve missed classes, and that’s because i am not the type of person who would voluntarily miss a class, not to talk more of classes. The only time I miss classes is when I’m terribly sick and moving around becomes difficult for me, but on some days i still attend classes even when I’m hooked down with sickness. This is to tell you how much i respect my responsibilities as a student…

If as a student I can be as dedicated as this to my education, then nothing should stop me from enjoying my holidays the way I want. My holidays are sacred, i don’t joke with them. The funniest thing is that i don’t do anything book related on my holidays, only on rare occasions have i ever had to punished myself by carrying up a book during a holiday…

Do i need more holidays?

Honestly, If you had asked me this question before now, probably when i was still in primary school and college, i might have said yes, more holidays need to be added to my country’s calendar. You know, back then school wasn’t really much of a big deal, as kids we just want to enjoy and explore…

But now things are different. I am now a tertiary institution student, the more the holidays, the more cumbersome my school activities will be, which means if care is not taken, less class is likely to lead to failure. And if there’s one thing I know for certain, less class won’t stop lecturers from changing their examination questions, which is why I think the number of holidays we have in the calendar right now is just perfect…

We will make do with just that, no addition, no subtraction. The earlier i get done with my 2 years program, the better it is for me, and more holidays will jeopardize that big time…

I also believe if the holiday gets too much, it will definitely affect the economy negatively. More holidays means lesser working days, and lesser working days means will eventually lead to incomplete paychecks. Take for examples bankers, what do you think will happen to the economy if all banks refuse to work because of excessive holidays. This won’t only affect the economy, it will also affect the people badly…

In conclusion, now you see why more holidays is a bad idea right now. The point is that what we have right now is just perfect. Anything other than this will cause more harm than good to not just the people but to also the economy, simple and short…
