One of my greatest goal in life has always been to gain admission into the tertiary institution, study my desired course, perform well in my field of study and graduate with one of the best results if not the best. The initial goal has always been to achieve this particular dream of mine in a standard and well equipped university. I worked tooth and nail for years to be admitted in the university of my choice, universities like Federal University Oye-Ekiti and Ladoke Akintola University.
These universities are among the Top 10 best universities in my country, but for one reason or another I just kept on getting rejected, regardless of the fact that i had good UTME scores. They just chose not to pick up my calls. After trying for years and realized things weren’t working out as planned, I decided to switch to plan B, and plan B was me settling for a Polytechnic with an alternative course in the same field of study. I wanted to study Medical Laboratory Science in the university, while Science laboratory Technology in the polytechnic. University was my first option, but after waiting on them for years for admission and nothing was coming forth, I decided to yield the call of polytechnic with Science Laboratory Technology as an option…
To God be the glory i was among the first list that was given admission, i was the number 115th to be precise, i guess polytechnic was my destiny after-all. My second Jamb got me straight into one of the best polytechnics in my country, with university standards. I was even given my desired course, even though it was quite competitive, my jamb score earned me that position and my SSCE result did the rest…
I became a polytechnic student 8 months ago and since then it’s been memories upon memories. The journey started out as a very complicated one, with so many things to do with less time to get them all done. I was quite overwhelmed in my first week of resumption, the fact that i had my brothers around to guide me was the greatest confidence ever, this reduced my anxiety and fear. My brother had to follow me to my very first class to get me settled in quite well…
At first everything was too good to be true, but after the first class was over and assignments were given, I realized i was in a different world and that a lot of things would definitely change going forward. After a short period of time, i was starting to know my way around the school and was adapting quite well, i was able to engage myself in conversations with other students, and got to know their stories…
I meant how they all ended up as polytechnic students and what made them switch, because I know everyone is always a fan of universities. I got to find out how polytechnic was just a back up plan for many of them and that university was the main deal, which means most of them had a story similar to mine…
The first couple of months as a polytechnic students was quite rough, tension was everywhere, especially when the examination time table came out. A lot of things were revealed to us that moment, one of them being how strict the school examination system was and how crazy their marking guide was, it was at this moment most of us knew what we had entered…
The first semester examination came shortly afterwards and before we knew it, we were done and dusted. 16 courses were chewed and swallowed, after some days of rest, the second semester commenced and before we knew it, we were weeks gone into the new semester…
We met new lecturers and came to understand what makes each semester challenging. After the first week, we eventually learnt how the new system works and how to move without being noticed by any lecturer, and just before we knew it, the mid semester was upon us…
Examination was drawing near again and lecturers were being more strict. Tests had to be conducted like examination to prepare us ahead for the upcoming examination and before we knew it, the second semester examination was just around the corner, and this time around it would be the survival of the fittest, and that’s exactly because Poly is out to suck GPA’s with their big pipe…
In just three weeks the second semester examination was completed, with students reading, attending tutorials and doing night classes like there was no tomorrow. Now we are currently undergoing our SIWESS program. This is a 16 weeks industrial experience program for students in the sciences and other fields…
In conclusion, this is currently week 2 of the 16 weeks of SIWESS and right now most of us are still recuperating from the stress of the last conducted examination. Hopefully, we will all be back better and stronger after a month’s rest…
100 level done and hopefully dusted. Cheers to 200 level…
