THE EXPECTATION OF AN ARTIST AND HIS PIECE…

Beauty is indeed in the eyes of the beholder. Honestly, i never truly understood the in-depth meaning of the above idiom until today. And it’s funny how this particular phrase was the first phrase that popped up in my head immediately i saw the topic of this week’s edition two prompt; BAD ART. I honestly didn’t see that coming, it just came to me naturally, and I embraced it. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, meaning;

what one person finds beautiful and attractive, another may not, as beauty is subjective and personal.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s quite fair to only associate this particular phrase to just one term; beauty. To me, this phrase is as very much applicable to beauty as it should also be to ART, especially with the intimate relationship between the two word…

When it comes to art, the knowledge each and every one of has regarding it varies greatly. Not everyone is an art lover, which means not everyone understands art. Some people see art as just random paintings, while other people see beyond that. The story behind every brush stroke in an art is what few people see and understand, and that’s what differentiates an artist from a random art collector. Do you think it’s all art collector that understands art. Some of them just collect it not because of the story that piece tells but because of how beautiful it is externally…

I have always been an art lover, yet I understand very little about most piece, and that’s because i’m only attracted to the brush strokes and exterior beauty and not the story beneath those strokes. I will only value it more when i know and understand the story it tells...

Art tells different story to different people, which means many people can have different interpretations from just one piece of drawing, and that’s exactly how it is with art. Which brings me to the next question…

A BAD ART…

Is there anything like a bad art?

Honestly, i’d say Yes and No to this particular question and that’s because i am standing in two different positions. The position of an artist and the position of a random art lover.

A random art lover is mostly focused on the outer beauty of a piece, and less concerned about what that piece is all about. As long as it’s a good piece, he or she will definitely have it, regardless of the actual story behind it. An artist is meant to understand and see both the visible and hidden emotions in a piece, regardless of the outward appearance of such piece. That is to say, what an ordinary art lover would consider ordinary and unattractive, a true artist would consider a rare gem and a masterpiece because of the story it tells and not because of how it looks…

If art is basically a form of expression, anything is likely to happen, which means it is possible to be quite bad at it, same way it is very possible to be very good at it…

What differentiate an artist from an ordinary painter is their level of expression. As an artist, being less expressive shouldn’t be a quality you should possess. If there’s lack of expression in every aspects of your life as an artist, your artwork should be that one thing that must stand out, which means it must be very expressive. The expressiveness of your piece is what differentiate you from the word ORDINARY, which means if you can’t deliver that much, then you aren’t any much different from an ordinary painter who just flips his brush on a surface, and call it masterpiece…

Being less expressive will definitely diminish the message you are trying to pass across as a true artist. A true artist will be able to understand the message of an unfinished piece, even with it being less expressive, but a random artist won’t be able to wrap their head around such work because of its lack of hundred percent expressiveness…

In conclusion, your level of expressiveness as an artist will determine the level of message your audience get from your piece…
