These days many grooming and styling kits are available in market for Men and Women. These products helps them to beautify themselves. People feel confident of themselves by using the artifical way of beautification. Our ancient Sanskrit has a differrnt outlook towards human beautification. Rather than adorning artificial products jewellary, it says ;
हस्तस्य भूषणं दानं सत्यं कण्ठस्य भूषणं |
श्रोत्रस्य भूषणं शास्त्रं भूषणैः किं प्रयोजनम् ||
Hastasya bhoodshanam daanam satyam kanthasya bhooshanam. shrotrasya bhooshanam shaastram bhooshanaih kim prayojanam.
Hastasya = hand's
Bhooshanam = decoration,
Daanam = donation, giving money as charity.
Satyam = (speaking) the truth,
Kanthasya = voice, throat. Shrotrasya = ears' (for listening )
Shaastram = treatises (books) on various disciplines of knowledge.
Kim = whar ?
Prayojanam = purpose, need
i.e. Giving charity to deserving people adorns the hands, truthfulness beautifies the voice (speech), listening to various scriptures beautifies the ears. If a person has these ornaments, what need does he have for other ornaments?
The old people belive that the decoration comes from inner self good thoughts. One could decorate their hands by giving 'donations' and helping the needy instead of wearing artificial jewellery and bracelets. Instead of putting heavy necklace or garlands on neck, one should beautify the neck by speaking the 'truth'. And for the ears, Instead of putting earrings or pierching metals, one should muse over various disciplines of 'knowledge and learning'. Good words and voice always bring inner peace to the soul. The ancient scriptures says that, If a person is endowed with these real decorations, the where is the need for the artificial ornaments ?
These days, people are more focused towards show off in the society. They never cared for helping others or even listen to elders. They are impatient who alwsys bring out vulgar and abisive tone for talking. I think the above verses fits good for the current generation. They should change their outlook towards beautification and adapt to good things in life than living life artificially.
