In Sanskrit literature, a lot has been written about the concept of enmity between Saraswati and Lakshmi. This Subhashita is also based on this. Lakshmi is considered the symbol of wealth and Saraswati of knowledge and it is believed that where Lakshmi is present, Saraswati flees from there. If a person is rich he may not be learned and a learned person may be poor.
Looking at some of the examples of famous personality like Sachin Tendulkar (indian cricketer) or Bill gates (founder microsoft) they were not that qualified before venturing into their area of interest. They made money by dedicately following their area of interest. Sanskrit further says that :
अर्थात्पलायते ज्ञानं मार्जारान्मूषिको यथा |
बकवत्ज्ञायतामर्थः सिंहवच्च जयेद्रिपुं ||
Arthaatpalaayate gyaanam maarjaaraanmooshiko yatha. Vakavatgyaayataamarthah simhavaccha jayedripum.
Arthaatpalaayate = arthaat + palaayate.
Arthaat = due to being wealthy.
Palaayate = departs, runs away.
Maarjaaraanmooshiko = Maarjaarhaat + mooshiko.
Maarjaarat = from a cat.
Mooshiko = mouse, rat.
Yatha = for instance.
Vakavtgyaayataamarthh = vakavat + gyaataam + arthh.
Vakavat = like a crane.
Gyaayataam = involve in acquiring.
Artham = wealth.
Simhavaccha = simghavat + cha.
Simhavat = like a lion.
Cha = and.
Jayedripum = jayet + ripum.
Jayet = conquer.
Ripum = enemies.
i.e. On seeing wealth, wisdom flees like a mouse flees on seeing a cat. For acquiring money & wealth one needs the same dedication and concentration as a heron does while catching fish and to conquer enemies one needs the courage like that of a lion.
An individual may lose their interest in studies, if they get taste of money. Money makes people mad,once tasted they always wanted to acquire more and more. In process they leave behind accumulating knowledge and wisdom. The scholars have pinpointed that if a person either needs to acquire knowledge or money, they need to put focus like a heron.
Dedication helps achieve success by providing sustained effort, focus, and resilience to overcome challenges and achieve long-term goals. It fosters a strong work ethic, cultivates patience and continuous improvement, and inspires persistence in the face of setbacks, transforming aspirations into tangible achievements.
Dedication is the drive that keeps us moving forward when others might give up, ultimately turning ambitions into reality.
