विद्या मित्रं प्रवासेषु भार्या मित्रं ग्रहेषु च.|
व्याधिस्थौषधं मित्रं धर्मो मित्रं मृतस्य च ||

Vidya = knowledge and learninng.
Mitram = a friend
Bhaarya = wife.
Gruheshu = in the household.
Chan = and.
Vyaadhisthaushadham = vyaadhistha + aushadham.
Vyaadhistha = during sickness.
Aushaudham = medicine.
Dharmo = religiousity.
Mrutasya = a dead person's.
i.e. While living abroad, a person's knowledge helps him like a friend and in family life, his wife is like a friend. Medicines are like friends during illness and religious practices done during life are like friends for a dead person in his next life
The author likes to state that at difficult times of human being, there is alwsys someone to standby for them as a friend. Likewise the author wanted to emphasis on observance of religiosity by a person during his lifetime serves as a friend after his death during his next birth. Sanatan Dharma believes that a person who conducts spiritual activities during his lifetime is born in a rich and famous family in his next birth. Spirituality is believed to help in the next birth by influencing the soul's karmic balance and final thoughts, which shape the conditions of the next life.
Through the practices like meditation, devotion, and acts of service, an individuals can purify their consciousness, diminish negative karma, and cultivate divine thoughts and intentions which further helps them.in their next birth.
