Today I want to share with you this slightly different outing. When I was looking for new destinations to discover in Portugal, something caught my attention: an old gunpowder factory that had been transformed into a park and was open to the public. I was very surprised because I couldn't imagine how a factory could be transformed into a park, so I researched where it was located, and today we are going to discover this curious destination together.

El día de hoy quiero compartirles este paseo un poco diferente, cuando estaba buscando nuevos destinos por descubrir en Portugal, algo me llamo la atención y es que aparecía en internet una antigua fabrica de pólvora libre al público que fue transformado en un parque, me sorprendió mucho porque no me puedo imaginar como una fábrica puede transformarse en un parque, así que investigue donde se encontraba y el día de hoy junto conmigo vamos a descubrir este curioso destino.

GUNPOWDER FACTORY IN BACARENA.

As its name suggests, this old factory is located in Bacarena Lisboa, in a small forest surrounded by nature. You can get there by bus, taxi, or car, and there is plenty of parking space. At first glance, it doesn't look like a factory; it actually looks like a park with trees, benches, a restaurant, and even events organized there. Interestingly, on the day I visited, there was a chess competition with lots of people and decorations related to that theme. But when you go further into the place, you start to get an idea of how big it is, as it has several sections, buildings, and even a bridge. As it is located in the middle of a forest, there are several signs indicating that you can see wild animals such as dragonflies, ducks, and other species of birds. The most surprising thing is that this river that runs through the factory is home to a unique species of fish called the Portuguese boga, is currently so endangered that it only lives in this river, which is why there is a lot of information about taking care not to pollute the river.
Now that we know a little about this place in general, let's talk about the factory. According to the information signs in the factory, this place has been open for centuries, serving different functions. In the 17th century alone, around 1618-19, the first workshop for the manufacture of black powder was in operation. The gunpowder workshop was adapted and adjusted to different types of gunpowder, new machinery, and various energy sources until its closure in 1988. It also served as an important economic base for the residents of Bacarena, offering great employment opportunities and economic gains from the factory's production, as blacksmithing tasks were also carried out there.

FABRICA DA POLVORA EN BACARENA.

Como su nombre lo dice esta antigua fábrica se encuentra en Bacarena Lisboa, localizado en una pequeña floresta rodeada de la naturaleza, puedes ir en bus, taxi o coche, tiene bastante lugar donde puedes estacionarte y ya a simple vista no parece que se encontraba una fábrica realmente parece un parque árboles, bancos, restaurante e incluso son organizados eventos, curiosamente en el día que fui al lugar había una competencia de ajedrez había muchas personas y decoraciones con esa temática. Pero cuando entras más al lugar, comienzas ya a tener varias ideas porque se puede apreciar que el lugar es grande, tiene varias secciones, edificaciones e incluso un puente. Como se encuentra en medio de floresta hay varios letreros indicando que puedes apreciar animales silvestre como libélulas, patos, otras especies de pájaros y lo más sorprendente es que en este río que pasa por la fábrica vive una única especie de pez en el mundo llamado boga-portuguesa, en estos momentos se encuentra en peligro de extinción a un grado tan alto que solo viven en ese río por lo cual hay muchas informaciones para tener cuidado y no contaminar el río.
Ahora que sabemos un poco en general de este lugar vamos a hablar de la fábrica según las señalizaciones informativas en la fábrica nos informa que, este lugar tiene siglos de su abertura sirviendo distintas funciones Solo en el siglo XVII, alrededor de 1618-19, funcionó el primer taller para la fabricación de pólvora negra. El taller de pólvora se fue adaptando y ajustando a los distintos tipos de pólvora, a las nuevas maquinarias y a las diversas fuentes de energía, hasta su cierre en 1988. También sirvió como una base económica importante para los residentes de Bacarena, ofreciendo grandes oportunidades de empleo más las ganancias económicas por las producciones en esta fábrica, ya que también eran realizadas tareas de herrería.

MUSEUM

We were fortunate that when we visited the factory, its museum was open. This museum is dedicated to Bacarena and the factory, where various work objects that influenced the factory and the work that was carried out are on display. We can also appreciate the work process of manufacturing gunpowder and its uses. Many of us know that gunpowder is used to make fireworks, ammunition, and for demolition purposes.

MUSEO.

Tuvimos la suerte de que cuando fuimos a la fábrica su museo se encontraba abierto. Este museo es dedicado a Bacarena y la fábrica, donde son exhibidos distintos objetos de trabajo que influyeron en la fábrica y los trabajos que eran realizados. También podemos apreciar el proceso de trabajo de la fabricación de la pólvora y sus usos. Muchos sabemos que la pólvora es utilizada para fabricación de pirotecnia, municiones y demoliciones.
